About H. G. Wells

H. G. Wells (1866–1946), born in Bromley, Kent, England, is known as the father of science fiction. He was also a prolific writer in other genres, including contemporary novels, history, and social commentary.

About the Narrators

Leonard Simon Nimoy (1931–2015) was an American actor, film director, poet, musician, and photographer. His most famous role was that of Spock in the original Star Trek series, as well as in multiple film, television, and video game sequels. He began his career in his early twenties, teaching acting classes in Hollywood and making minor film and television appearances through the 1950s, as well as playing the title role in Kid Monk Baroni. He made his first appearance in the rejected Star Trek pilot, “The Cage,” in 1965 and went on to play Spock until 1969. Spock had a significant cultural impact and garnered Nimoy three Emmy Award nominations. TV Guide named Spock one of the fifty greatest television characters.

Armin Shimerman is familiar to science fiction fans as Quark on Star Trek: DS-9 and as Principal Snyder on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. An acclaimed stage actor, he has also cowritten four science fiction novels.

John de Lancie is an actor and voice-over artist known for his numerous television roles, including Star Trek, Stargate SG-1, and Breaking Bad. He has also been featured in the popular Assassins Creek video game series and has appeared on stage at the American Shakespeare Festival, the Seattle Repertory Company, and the Old Globe, among others. He is married to actress-singer Marnie Mosiman, and they have two sons, Keegan and Owen.

Richard Kind is an American actor known for his roles in television sitcoms, including Mad About You and Spin City. Also a prominent voice actor, his work includes Disney’s Tom and Jerry: The Movie, A Bug’s Life, Cars, and Cars 2. He lives in Santa Monica.

Wil Wheaton is an award–winning actor, voice artist, author, and audiobook narrator. Among his movie credits are Stand by Me and Toy Soldiers. His many television credits include Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Big Bang Theory, and Generator Rex. As a narrator of more than a dozen audiobooks, he has twice won the prestigious Audie Award, twice been a finalist for the Audie, and earned an Earphones Award from AudioFile magazine.

John Getz is a stage-trained actor known for his roles in Blood Simple, The Fly, and The Social Network. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa and attended the American Conservatory of Theatre in San Francisco.

Barrie Kreinik is an actor, singer, playwright, and voice-dialect coach based in New York City. Her audiobook narrations have earned an AudioFile Earphones Award. A graduate of the Brown/Trinity MFA acting program, she is a proud member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA.
