Lestat. The vampire hero of Anne Rice’s enthralling novel is a creature of the darkest and richest imagination. Once an aristocrat in the heady days of pre-revolutionary France, now a rock star in the demonic, shimmering 1980s, he rushes through the centuries in search of others like him, seeking answers to the mystery of his eternal, terrifying exsitence. His is a mesmerizing story—passionate, complex, and thrilling. Praise for The Vampire Lestat “Frightening, sensual . . . Anne Rice will live on through the ages of literature. . . . To read her is to become giddy as if spinning through the mind of time, to become lightheaded as if our blood is slowly being drained away.”—San Francisco Chronicle “Fiercely ambitious, nothing less than a complete unnatural history of vampires.”—The Village Voice “Brilliant . . . its undead characters are utterly alive.”—The New York Times Book Review “Luxuriantly created and richly told.”—The Cleveland Plain Dealer

"Overall, I enjoyed this book. The story of Lestat and the stories he is told by others are very interesting and touching. In places, the writing is beautiful crafted. I found myself rereading several lines and then writing them down in my book of quotes. The imagery is very powerful. This is a wonderful novel. However, there are times when the tale gets a bit tedious. The book has peaks and valleys. Between some good dialogue, some fast action, or a good story-telling, there are these stretches of tedium. Perhaps they're to mark the passage of time or to make the more interesting parts of the book all the more interesting. In any case, these parts of the book would sometimes cause me to not read it for a few days. Nonetheless, the book as a whole is definitely worth reading."

— Paul, 12/16/2013" Whereas Interview with the Vampire was a bit slow, this book for me was where the story really took off. Love Lestat! I first began reading the Vampire Chronicles in high school and have read most of them at least 3 times... "

— Jimmy, 8/28/2013" So, I tried to read this. After 4 days, I got not even to page 25. I don't think the author is bad, and I don't think it's exactly boring, but the book series seems to be just a really tough read and bad fit for my tastes. So, I'm letting go of the series indefinitely. "
— Aleina, 8/5/2013" At one time always had an Anne Rice book in my hands. "

— Haolen, 8/25/2012" Thanks to this book I learnt to understand Lestat and to admire him, of course ! I loved reading all of his adventures. I didn't know he had felt so lonely before meeting Louis, now I understand why he didn't want Louis to separate from him: he wanted a partner to spend all the eternity. "

— Charlotte, 6/9/2011" Almost as good as Queen of the Damned, as it truly expands the vampire world and Lestat's origin. "
— C.C., 6/9/2011" It took me a little while to get into it at first, Lestat does ALOT of crying and brooding.. and being romantically dramatic in general, but as the story progressed I found myself getting more and more drawn into the story and wondering what Lestat would do next. "
