In a quiet residential area in London, a couple is discovered bound and imprisoned in their own home. Savagely battered and severely dehydrated, the worst revelation is yet to come: their eight-year-old son has been abducted. But when the body is found and forensic evidence turns the case on its head, revealing disturbing parallels to events in Detective Caffery's own past, Caffery realizes he's dealing with much more sinister forces than he'd anticipated - and finds it increasingly difficult to maintain his professional distance. As the evidence mounts and Caffery struggles to hold his own life together, the case hurtles toward a shocking conclusion.

"Chilling. By the middle of the book I was very anxious but I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. While this is a departure from my usual reading material, I definitely want to read more from this author. I've already ordered several more to keep me busy far into the night. Very well written and highly recommended."

" The Treatment is a very good read, but I didn't find it as captivating as Birdman. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the Jack Caffery books to continue the story. "

— Anastasia, 1/28/2014" Her books are so twisted and graphic but you can not stop reading them! This one was particularly grouesome but yu keep turning the pages and then slept uneasily that night. "
— Melanie, 1/27/2014" Better than the 1st book of the series.... Will definitely pick up the next book. "
— Verena, 1/24/2014" Manages to be more squeam-inducing than the book preceding it, quite a feat. "
— Matt, 1/22/2014" Another excellent Novel By Mo Hayder. Chilling, and, as a father myself, one of the most scariest crimes imaginable. "
— Andy, 1/21/2014" A really good read, creepy in places especially as i was reading on my own late at night. i loved it. "
— Sheila, 1/19/2014" Jack Caffrey is a fantastic character with a troubled past, which makes him identify with both victims and criminals - a cross between Frost and Columbo, with abit of Jack Reacher thrown in for good measure! "
— Jan, 1/19/2014" I'm done with this author -- too dark for me. "
— Pam, 1/16/2014" Too gruesome. "
— Hermien, 12/15/2013" I have no words right now. I am thoroughly gutted. "
— Shana, 12/15/2013" An excellent read, but very disturbing. Definitely not for the faint-hearted... "
— Sharan, 11/29/2013" Of all horrible stories Mo Hayder has written this is, in my opinion, the most horrible. Keeps you awake at night. "

— Linda, 10/31/2013" This book literally kept me up at night. What a page turner!! The end was heartbreaking but realistic. In a book like this what more can you ask. "

— Jeff, 8/29/2013" One of the best Mo Hayder novels. Wow... Shocking stuff! That's what I like about Mo Hayder. Well it is up there with Ritual and Gone. Both were fantastic. Five stars for my favorite author. "
— Mike, 6/3/2013" Another great book by Mo Hayder. It's an uber tough subject matter with a kick-you-while-you're-down ending. I WAS going to go straight into Ritual (Jack Caffery #3), but I need a minute now. Jesus. "
— Chena, 12/27/2012" Even more disturbing than her first book. "
— Manda, 10/28/2012" Enjoyed the book, thought the plot both believable & fraught with human error just as in life. Mo Hayder is excellent in her genre, a guaranteed bit of reading pleasure 8 escapism. "
— Susan, 10/6/2012" A very good book. Mo tends to meander and the level of detail and descriptions seem overdone a bit at times, but she does an exceptional job of story telling and does a good job of misleading and not being obvious which I appreciate. The book can be quite disurbing but it is very good. "
— Paul, 8/27/2012" HB -- Dark, dark book about a very strange child killer and the end of the pedophile next door to Caffery. some paortions of the book cannot be read by the reader due to the details written about peds. The writer Mo can go to a very dark hell and I wonder how long it takes her to recover. "
— Irene, 7/24/2012" I found the book very riveting and a page turner, but the subject matter is really icky and uncomfortable. "
