Birdman showcases Hayder at her spine-tingling best as beloved series character Jack Caffery tracks down a terrifying serial killer. In his first case as lead investigator with London's crack murder squad, Detective Jack Caffery is called on to investigate the murder of a young woman whose body has been discovered near the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, southeast London. Brutalized, and mutilated beyond recognition, the victim is soon joined by four others discovered in the same area - all female and all ritualistically murdered. And when the postmortem examination reveals a gruesome signature connecting the victims, Caffery realizes exactly what he's dealing with - a dangerous serial killer.

"Very good indeed, took a recommendation from my sister and I havent looked back since with regards to Mo Hayder's books... Brillaint stand alone or as a start to the Jack Caffery series. Good choice for Val McDermid fans!!"
— Emilie (5 out of 5 stars)
" one of my fav books ever "
— Karen, 2/6/2014" An exciting read, with a good ending and nice plotting. However, the story is frequently a bit dull, and the killer's identity is spoiled a bit too soon. "
— Carl, 2/3/2014" Having recieved this as a free Nook book I had low expectations. But I was truly suprised. I really was kept guessing which does not usually happen for me. My only issue may have have been an issue with Nook rather then the book itself. The transitions between storylines are abrupt. Often storyline changes are indicated by extra spaces between paragraphs or even symbols, this had neither. This really bothered me during a very important moment for the main character, I had to read the section 3 times to makes sure what I thought happened really happened. "
— Tonya, 1/31/2014" Excellent read! It held my interest all the way and kept me guessing. I hated to see it end. I would definitely like to read more of Mo Hader's books in this series. "
— Peg, 1/26/2014" Very well written. There were some rather gory descriptions of victims of serial killer but well written and believable. Intrigued by the main character. Looking forward to reading more in this series. "
— Cheryl, 1/16/2014" A great first novel. Will definitely read the next "
— Patrik, 12/29/2013" this was excellent, kept u on the edge of your seat, very dark and sinister "
— Wendy, 12/22/2013" Perverted subject matter. "
— Virginia, 12/12/2013" Cool crime writing set in modern day London. Bizarre, with twists. Had no idea what I was getting into, but liked the jacket write up and gave it a shot. Glad I did. "
— Andrew, 9/22/2013" Fast paced, shocking, gripping thriller. A great book by Mo Hayder, I've been reading the Caffery series backwards (don't ask) and still wasn't disappointed "
— Chris, 9/19/2013" LOVED IT!!! A real page turner "
— Luz, 9/6/2013" her 1st book, too violent by far as if she searched for the edges and then set out to etch them with chainsaws. But she can construct a story..... "
— Linny, 8/16/2013" I loved this book. Well written and fast paced. Loved the ending. Lead detective is an interesting character. "
— Daniel, 7/22/2013" I found this series really interesting. It is violent, but I love how flawed the lead characters are. It is well written also. "
— Renee, 6/29/2013" Wasn't sure whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars. I enjoyed it but it was very graphic and very disturbing in parts. Mo is a very good story teller will I go back for another book?? You just never know. "
— Mirjam, 6/15/2013" Slow to start. Not particularly well written - sort of jerky rather than smoothly told. But it did pick up and by the end became a page turner that I didn't want to put down. Love the serial killer novels. "
— Roblyn, 5/1/2013" I could not get into this book at all. It is not a "page turner". The gore/horror did not bother me at all. What bothered me was the fact that I found the book very boring. I also got lost in the sea of British police acronyms and the slang. "
— Bryan, 4/13/2013" The descriptions can be pretty gruesome, so it's not the kind of book I'd want to read every day (or while eating), but the plot was great and I find myself wanting to read more from this series. "
— Anna, 3/27/2013" Slow start, but very good storyline. "
— April, 1/15/2013" Just discovered Mo Hayder - creepy, tight plot. Fast pacing. Good British police procedural. Love Jack Caffrey. Classic workaholic, alcoholic, driven cop. Happy he's a serial character. "
— Baxter, 9/27/2012" Excellent thriller, kept me on my toes! "
— Lizy, 6/8/2012" Scary. Got me reading a lot more of Mo Hayder, and they're all scary. "
