Publisher Description

With music and sound effects, this audiobook is perfect for those who love Ferdinand and those who have yet to meet him.   A true classic with a timeless message, The Story of Ferdinand has enchanted readers since it was first published in 1936. All the other bulls would run and jump and butt their heads together. But Ferdinand would rather sit and smell the flowers. And he does just that, until the day a bumblebee and some men from the Madrid bullfights give gentle Ferdinand a chance to be the most ferocious star of the corrida—and the most unexpected comic hero.

“With a gentle Spanish accent and leisurely pacing, narrator Brian Amador lends just the right ambiance to the classic tale of Ferdinand…Just as Ferdinand moves at an unhurried pace, so too does Amador. Phrases are drawn out, and long pauses are offered between moments in the story, which are perfect for reflecting or for poring over the illustrations, should the book be at hand. The names of the bullfighters—picadores, banderilleros, and matador—roll off Amador’s tongue. Angel Pineda narrates additional words from the book’s artwork, and the production includes background sounds such as the lowing of animals and the humming of insects. Even when one already knows what happens when the bee stings, listening to this recording is a pleasure. Winner of the AudioFile Earphones Award.”

  • “Narrator Brian Amador reads the classic tale of Ferdinand the bull with a gentle Spanish accent and an unhurried pace, and singing birds and clanging bells add ambiance. Readers have loved the story of gentle Ferdinand’s adventure in the bullring for decades, and it’s fun to share the new audiobook version with little ones today.”

    — ReadBrightly (An Ultimate Audiobook Pick for Summer 2017)
  • “This has an irresistible appeal to the sense of the ridiculous. The story in text and pictures of a bull that was so mild that he preferred to smell the flowers and of how he came to the bull ring and sniffed the ladies’ perfume instead of providing sport for the audience.”
