Publisher Description

#1 New York Times Bestseller

"The Shell Seekers is a deeply satisfying story, written with love and confidence."

—Maeve Binchy, The New York Times Book Review

The Shell Seekers, the classic novel by acclaimed writer Rosamunde Pilcher, is now available in hardcover once more. This epic romance has sold over 3.5 million copies to date; her other bestsellers include Winter Solstice, Wild Mountain Thyme, and Coming Home.

Set in London and Cornwall from World War II to present, The Shell Seekers tells the story of the Keeling family, and of the passions and heartbreak that have held them together for three generations. The family centers around Penelope, and it is her love, courage, and sense of values that determine the course of all their lives, Deftly shifting back and forth in time, each chapter centers on one of the principal players in the family's history. the unifying thread is an oil painting entitled "The Shell Seekers," done by Penelope's father. It is this painting that symbolizes to Penelope the ties between the generations. But it is the fate of this painting that just may tear the family apart.

"I can read this book once a year (and I usually do!) and never get sick of it. The characters are wonderful, the plot is interesting and the writting is very good. I've read a few others by Rosamonde Pilcher - this is my favorite! A good book for curling up by the fire and reading a weekend away."

" OMG its so boring it makes me want to claw my eyes out! Penelope's kids are unbrearable, Penelope is unbearable. All of the main characters, except maybe Olivia, are minor jerks- They dont even compell you to dislike them all that much and very little happens. Its like 20 hours of listening to some strange grandmother who you dont particularly like tell you her life story- sure people she loves die in the war,her parents get old and die, marrages are not always happy, kids can be annoying. Duh. Who cares! I certainly dont, and the author fails to make me feel any more involved than reading the morning paper- only nothing in THIS story is newsworthy. I cant believe someone thought it was a good idea to publish this book. "

" Oh Penelope...the life you led. It was difficult to get into this book at first because the first few chapters are about Penelope's awful grown children. Finally it gets into her story and it is riveting. It takes place during WWII. I really enjoyed this book! "

Some of the characters I didn't love (because they were dumb), but I loved the story of Penelope--the main character. "
