Myfanwy Thomas awakes in a London park surrounded by dead bodies. With her memory gone, her only hope of survival is to trust the instructions left in her pocket by her former self. She quickly learns that she is a Rook, a high-level operative in a secret agency that protects the world from supernatural threats. But there is a mole inside the organization - and this person wants her dead.

As Myfanwy battles to save herself, she encounters a person with four bodies, a woman who can enter her dreams, children transformed into deadly fighters, and an unimaginably vast conspiracy.

Suspenseful and hilarious, The Rookis an outrageously inventive debut for listeners who like their espionage with a dollop of purple slime.

" Definitely strange and maybe a tad long-winded in places but it was amazingly creative and really funny at times. It was a nice departure from the more girly things I've been ready lately. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 anguinea | 2/3/2014

" Fun book along the clever humor along the lines of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl or Douglas Adams. I liked it a lot! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Michael | 2/3/2014

" Story about a Secret British Agency that protects the world from the supernatural. I enjoyed it and I felt that while the idea of a secret agency protecting us from the supernatural seems cliched, this book was extremely fresh and original. The supernatural threats were some I have never seen before. The super powers that the good and the bad guys have are also very original. Hopefully this becomes a BBC TV show. "

" Kind of a slow, confusing start but it gelled nicely as it went along. British paranormal fiction, with a nice feminine slant. Nice stuff. "

" The narrative in this book pulls you in and then keeps you there. I was hoping to read this book on my commute to and from work, but that resolve quickly faded. Excellent modern fantasy. "
