This short story is a fascinating case study of a man who experiences a strange phenomenon. Davidson, the protagonist, suddenly finds himself able to see beyond the normal range of human vision. He can see into the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums of light, allowing him to perceive things that are normally invisible to the naked eye. This new ability comes with some drawbacks, however, as Davidson struggles to adjust to his new way of seeing the world.
