Ronald Reagan wrote compellingly in his diary every day for the eight years of his Presidency. You get very clear insight into the man, his loves, his irritations, his thinking and his priciples. What was especially striking was his commitment to working the "other side of the aisle" to generate relationships and compromise. Like all Conservative Presidents, it's clear he didn't like the media very much but saw the necessity of dealing with them. Historian Brinkley does a great job of summarizing the trivial and leaving the "meat" of each entry."
