"Beverly Lewis has created a lovely journey in the life of the Amish. The family pretense of following your parents and the laws set forth, it makes one wonder what would happen if you were in the same situation. Who do you follow? Your family, the one you love, or the Lord? "

— Heather (4 out of 5 stars)

Quotes

  • As in her other novels, Lewis creates a vividly imaged sensory WD … And her well-drawn characters speak with authentic voices as they struggle to cope with grief and questions about their tradition and relationship with God.

" I have a bizarre fascination with these books. (I call them Amish romance novels, but I guess they're technically Christian/inspirational fiction.) I really don't know why. This one actually wasn't too exciting, and as always, I wasn't necessarily impressed with the writing style, etc. But I suspect there will be more drama to come in the next volume, and for whatever reason, I continue to be hooked. " Wonderbaar gut! This & the 2 books following it (The Forbidden & The Longing) are about the revival among the Lancaster County Amish in the 1960's. Lewis makes things so realistics you'll want to don a Kapp and apron to read it! For sure & for certain. "

" Beverly Lewis story with a twist. I never knew about the schism in the Amish community that occurred in the 1960's. Other than that the characters are typical of Lewis and readers will find themselves in a comfortable easy read. "
