Publisher Description

First in an all-new series where seductive danger and steampunk adventure abound in the gritty world of the Iron Seas. After the Iron Duke freed England from Horde control, he instantly became a national hero. Now Rhys Trahaearn has built a merchant empire on the power-and fear-of his name. And when a dead body is dropped from an airship onto his doorstep, bringing Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth into his dangerous world, he intends to make her his next possession. But when Mina uncovers the victim's identity, she stumbles upon a conspiracy that threatens the lives of everyone in England. To save them, Mina and Rhys must race across zombie-infested wastelands and treacherous oceans-and Mina discovers the danger is not only to her countrymen, as she finds herself tempted to give up everything to the Iron Duke.

"I've read a little steam punk in the past. I just didn't know it! This is the first book in the genre that I've purposely picked because of the genre. With that said, I enjoyed it for good escape reading (listening--audio version) and will probably continue with the series. I must say that I DO like my pirates (close eyes and picture Johnny Depp!)."

" I read this book for the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club, and overall I quite enjoyed it. The story was fun, with a re-imagined England and America living in the shadow of the Mongol Hoard. The heroine is appropriately kick-ass with a believable physical and emotional frailty that add solid dimension to her character. The hero is basically an immature bully, but his character flaws are well grounded and he learns from his mistakes, so in the end I liked him. The tech is fascinating and adds another layer of enjoyment to the world. I will look for the next book in the series. "

" Interesting world building! Took me a little while to get sucked into the entire concept but I enjoyed the issues it raised about a group mindset. Characters are somewhat reminiscent of the Parasol series with slightly more readable prose. Looking forward to the next in the series "

" I think this book find the perfect amount of story and naughty. I like the strong and sometimes domineering Rhys character. The side characters were interesting and funny. Action packed, dirty and kracken. Awesome. What is with the terrible cover art for this book though. Ugh! "
