"I've read a little steam punk in the past. I just didn't know it! This is the first book in the genre that I've purposely picked because of the genre. With that said, I enjoyed it for good escape reading (listening--audio version) and will probably continue with the series. I must say that I DO like my pirates (close eyes and picture Johnny Depp!)."

" Great book, good world building. This was my first steampunk romance and it was a lot of fun. "
— Jacqueline, 2/7/2014" I read this book for the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club, and overall I quite enjoyed it. The story was fun, with a re-imagined England and America living in the shadow of the Mongol Hoard. The heroine is appropriately kick-ass with a believable physical and emotional frailty that add solid dimension to her character. The hero is basically an immature bully, but his character flaws are well grounded and he learns from his mistakes, so in the end I liked him. The tech is fascinating and adds another layer of enjoyment to the world. I will look for the next book in the series. "
— Eddie, 1/23/2014" Interesting world building! Took me a little while to get sucked into the entire concept but I enjoyed the issues it raised about a group mindset. Characters are somewhat reminiscent of the Parasol series with slightly more readable prose. Looking forward to the next in the series "
— Minh, 1/20/2014" I must have really liked this book because I read it in one night. I couldn't put it down. "
— Aimee, 1/13/2014" Amazing world building. Not so sure about the zombies or other aspects. Also, still don't understand the hype around steampunk, but that one is just me. 3 1/2 stars. "
— Emma, 1/4/2014" My first exposure to steampunk, and I loved it. Fascinating world, great characterization, excellent writing, and an exciting plot to bring it all together. Highly recommend! "
— Anita, 12/26/2013" Well, if this is what the late run of Urban Fantasy paranormal romance has been leading up to, I withdraw my objections. SO GOOD. Fantastic world-building, fantastic characters. "
— Electric, 11/26/2013" I think this book find the perfect amount of story and naughty. I like the strong and sometimes domineering Rhys character. The side characters were interesting and funny. Action packed, dirty and kracken. Awesome. What is with the terrible cover art for this book though. Ugh! "
— Raquel, 11/26/2013" My first foray into "steampunk" genre. I was confused and felt like I needed a dictionary or an index of some sort. "
— Juliet, 10/28/2013" Steampunk adventures and sex. Yes plz. "
— J., 3/7/2013" Most excellent writing and slashing steampunk. Well worth reading again. "
— Michele, 5/2/2012" Just added a steampunk shelf -- this book was historical steampunk. Looking forward to the next one! "
