"The Innocent Mage is come, and we stand at the beginning of the end of everything."
Being a fisherman like his father isn't a bad life, but it's not the one that Asher wants. Despite his humble roots, Asher has grand dreams. And they call him to Dorana, home of princes, beggars, and the warrior mages who have protected the kingdom for generations.
Little does Asher know, however, that his arrival in the city is being closely watched by members of the Circle, people dedicated to preserving an ancient magic.
Asher might have come to the city to make his fortune, but he will find his destiny.

"not the fastest paced book on the planet but dont let that put you off. this duo of books is a slow burner with a moving conclusion. well worth a read the characters are engaging with real human qualities and flaws making them believable and well rounded. takes time but is rewarding."
— Lauren (4 out of 5 stars)
A solid epic that posits political intrigue, ethereal prophecies and a rags-to-riches hero against a vivid if familiar fantasy backdrop.
— Publishers Weekly" I did enjoy this book, though I will admit it did feel like the entire book served as a build up to a sequel. It was a very slow paced build-up and its seemed to promise a lot of action that didn't really get the pay off I expected. Miller's dialogue and intricacies of class worked into it was extremely well done. Also, while the characters weren't necessarily likable at all times, they were realistic and developed. I also enjoyed that with the exception of the big bad-guy (Morg), none of the characters were evil per se. Sure they were irritating, prejudice and mean at times, but each appeared to have motivations and beliefs beyond the usual "I'm bad, let's kill everything" tropes. I'm eager for the second novel, which will hopefully have a lot more action than the first. "
— George, 2/5/2014" This was a really good read "
— Claire, 2/2/2014" Was a decent story but not much happened until near the end of the second book. I kept reading because it was interesting, though. "
— Cabnboy, 1/12/2014" Somehow got me to read the second book in the series. "
— Matt, 12/18/2013" Good story but slow in developing throughout the book. If you are looking for instant action it isn't really a fast paced item, more about building intrigue. "
— Michael, 12/14/2013" Great fantasy novel! It has everything it should! "
— Marcella, 12/9/2013" My last fantasy book of the month. Enjoyable. Good characterization. The end seemed almost..rushed. The way it ended left me a little sick to my stomach (ok I think that was just my flu) but still.... anyway, I'd still recommend! "
— Chichi, 11/26/2013" I love this book. I read it almost nonstop. "
— Jon, 11/1/2013" I LOVE this book! Gar The Magickless; The Prince of Lur and Asher The Fisherman; The Innocent Mage have such a great friendship. I love the town and the Characters and the way they are all entwined with each other through an ancient prophecy. "
— Amanda, 3/29/2013" It was amazing ((: I have the second book and will probably start it soon! "
— Ariel, 2/18/2013" This book was a really fun read. The main character was great and the way it was told made me laugh out loud quite a few times. Sometimes it got a little bit frustrating, but in the end it was still really really good :) "
— Mil-isb, 12/21/2012" Gripping adventure, well paced. "
— Sophie, 12/11/2012" The vast majority of this book is exposition. Miller is establishing her world, establishing the characters and establishing the coming conflict. Though this is a duology, it seems that it's actually a double-duology. So, it will be interesting to see where she takes it. However, so far so good. "
— Dale, 12/7/2012" It was interesting that the main character was what I would call ornery. He was hard to like at the beginning. I also hated the cliff-hanger ending. "
— Tawny, 11/20/2012" Must admit this book surprised me. Went into it not expecting much, but really enjoyed it. "
— Ray, 10/1/2012" slow start, but nicely developed characters and storyline. have the second book ready, as there's a nasty cliffy at the end of this one! "
— Stephanie, 9/3/2012" I enjoyed the character and the world was interesting. This was a fun and easy read. "
— Todd, 7/28/2012" A very enjoyable book all in all, but it takes a rather long time getting into it, and i find it hard to take Asher seriously, although i suppose thats how the Author wanted him to seem! "
— Richard, 5/18/2012" Enjoyable. The romantic angle is more than a little forced but the chaos of the magic when it's unleashed and the inherent racism of the society is all handled very well. "
— Conor, 2/8/2012" Couldn't put it down. Had to Know what was to happen next "
— Lisa, 5/6/2011" Very good book, well written. Good story, captivating. Recommend having book 2 to hand if you don't like cliff hangers, this book leaves us right at a very exciting point with a crucial plot point within the last few pages. "
— Cheryl, 4/24/2011" Really enjoyed this book, but the amount of questions that were left completely unanswered annoys me a touch. Definitely excited to start on the next one tonight though! "
— Nermph, 3/6/2011" Was a decent story but not much happened until near the end of the second book. I kept reading because it was interesting, though. "
— Cabnboy, 2/21/2011" A book where not very much actually happens. Lots of musing and thinking from the boring characters though. "
— Michael, 1/16/2011" Awesome fantasy novel. Full of twists and turns, and features a hero who for once, isn't a badass sword-wielding professional or a royal prince searching for treasure/the key to the kingdom/his bride. It also features the best way of describing a crazy person - slumskumbledy. "
— Cady, 1/12/2011" Well written book, cliffhanger at the end made me want to run out and pick up the next book in the series! "
— Chris, 1/11/2011" Great trilogy, great characters, interesting story line "
— Kerr, 1/11/2011" Great fantasy novel! It has everything it should! "
— Marcella, 1/5/2011" Couldn't put it down. Had to Know what was to happen next "
