Twenty-five years after she began exchanging drawings with a mysterious boy in the guest book of a Carolina beach house, Macy Dillon is back at Sunset Beach—this time toting a hurting heart and a broken family. Questions of childhood, loss, and longing for love are explored in The Guest Book.
When Macy Dillon was five years old her father encouraged her to draw a picture in the guestbook of a Carolina beach house. The next year, Macy returned to discover a drawing by an unidentified little boy on the facing page. Over the next eleven years the children continue to exchange drawings … until tragedy ends visits to the beach house altogether. During her final trip to Sunset, Macy asks her anonymous friend to draw her one last picture and tells him where to hide the guest book in hopes that one day she will return to find it—and him.
Twenty-five years after that first picture, Macy is back at Sunset Beach—this time toting a broken family and a hurting heart. One night, alone by the ocean, Macy asks God to help her find the boy she never forgot, the one whose beautiful pictures touched something deep inside of her. Will she ever find him? And if she does, will the guestbook unite them or merely be the relic of a lost childhood?

"This is a great modern romantic read for any time of year - in the summer, it'll have you longing for some time at the beach, and in every other season, it'll have you looking forward to the fun possibilities that every summer brings. The characters are fun and full of life, and there is a sweet, very romantic mystery involving the Guest Book that had me guessing all the way to the end and left my heart happy. I found myself identifying with and really rooting for Macy, the protagonist. The only thing I didn't like about this is that it had to end... I want a sequel!"

" This was a very simple book - but very refreshing! I loved it and I want to read more of her novels! "
— Lori, 2/10/2014" For a few days, I got to escape to a Carolina beach house and journey with Macy Dillon as she pieced together a bit of mystery and the deep longing of her heart. Marybeth Whalen paints realistic family relationships against the backdrop of a beautiful setting. THE PERFECT SUMMER BEACH READ! "
— Kellie, 1/17/2014" 'Loved this book: a well written 21st century love story: very engaging. It provided a wonderful book vacation to the North Carolina coast. "
— Marcie, 1/4/2014" Her first two books were much better. This one was a cute story and I loved the setting, but I didn't think a couple of the main characters were nearly developed enough, nor was Macy's relationship with them. Felt rushed. "
— Sarah, 12/29/2013" I like the writing. I thought the plot line was far-fetched. Unless good looking available men all hang out in the same seaside resort town. (When you find that town, let me know the name of it.) "
— Bethany, 12/8/2013" Marybeth Whalen is a Christian fiction author. This is her third novel. They are beach reads (light summer reading) but I really enjoy the characters and the plot lines. It only took me a few days to get through this one on vacation. "
— Nancy, 11/29/2013" Nice story, but found the story dragging out "
— Janine, 11/25/2013" Good escape "
— Patricia, 10/29/2013" Really liked the story overall. Liked the mystery of who the boy grew up to be. Just needed a hint "more" to give it 5 stars. "
— Kristen, 3/27/2013" I read every 20th or 30th page after the first 50... Predictable and boring "
— Jollean, 3/19/2013" OK for a quick read but the plot is just too coincidental. "
— Sue, 11/10/2012" Fast moving Christian romance. Kept me wondering until the end who the person was in the Guest Book. "
— Margaret, 10/5/2012" I read this because it takes place on Sunset Beach, NC. I've vacationed there and love the place. "
