Plot Summary

"The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family, and Ducks Built a Dynasty" delves deeper into the latest favorite family on TLC's television show, Duck Dynasty. This traditional family from the Louisiana bayou made its fortune by creating and selling duck calls. The millionaires still rely on many of their values ingrained before they become wealthy.

The story introduces us to the Robertson family. The relationship between the Robertson brothers is unique and we learn more about Willie, Jase, Jep, and another brother who is not featured on the television show. Parents Phil and Kay share their thoughts, and we get to look into the lives of Korie, the wife of Willie, and how she manages to raise a family and find time to look beautiful and stylish when she's constantly surrounded by duck hunters.

The Robertson's are not your typical redneck family. Despite their rise in income, they still live in the bayou and they have strong family ties. Family sticks together, and they share stories that show good times and bad, and how the family worked together to get where they are today. Since much of the family history and current decisions get made around the dinner table, chapters in the book are named by notable family dishes including "Fried Bologna," "Chicken Strips," and "Duck Gumbo."

Faith is another important facet to the Robertson family. They share unashamedly about their Christian faith, and share how it is important to their financial and personal success.

Lastly, the Robertson's share about business. Hear business tips mixed in with humorous stories that tell how the business started and how it got to where it is today.

Husband and wife team, Willie and Korie Robertson authored the story of this family. Willie is the CEO of Duck Commander which sells duck calls, clothing, and videos. Korie helped Willie take the business from a small family venture to a multimillion dollar company and continues to work as the office manager. They have four children and live in West Monroe, Louisiana.

"I love this family, and I really enjoyed learning more about Phil and Kay's early beginning. This is another story of redemption and compassion as Kay forgives a Phil that we would never expect existed from what we see of him today. There is always an opportunity to trade the wrong road for the right one and Phil is wonderful example of this. The only recipe in this book I am going to try is the dumplings, I expect it will work as well in Turkey broth as it does in squirrel broth."

" Love the show. This was a fairly quick read based on Willie & Korie's story. A basic view of the Robertsons family view. You can tell that a lot went untold but that's ok. They obviously were careful not to bring their family into too tight a focus. It must be difficult to be so in the public eye & yet maintain a level of normalcy. It's interesting to see how sometimes a simple idea can grow beyond the thinkers original concept. A duck call that sounds like a duck. But the tale also shows how hard & persistent work pays off. "
