There are many things that Annah would like to forget: the look on her sister's face before Annah left her behind in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, her first glimpse of the Horde as they swarmed the Dark City, the sear of the barbed wire that would scar her for life. But most of all, Annah would like to forget the morning Elias left her for the Recruiters. Annah's world stopped that day, and she's been waiting for Elias to come home ever since. Somehow, without him, her life doesn't feel much different than the dead that roam the wasted city around her. Until she meets Catcher, and everything feels alive again. But Catcher has his own secrets. Dark, terrifying truths that link him to a past Annah has longed to forget, and to a future too deadly to consider. And now it's up to Annah: can she continue to live in a world covered in the blood of the living? Or is death the only escape from the Return's destruction?

"This is the last of the trilogy of books in the forest of hands and teeth series, I found it very edge of the seat stuff and how Annah escaped from her many near death situations was incredible, like a cat with 9 lives. It was very enjoyable although this last book seemed to drag just a wee bit, hence a star knocked off, also there was no history to where it all began or why, but a good page turner and those relentless unconsecrated and vicious recruiters, how they ever stand a chance...well you'll have to see for yourself ;)"

" The first half was really draggy but it definitely picked up! I still found the first book to be the better of the three (a sort of Walking Dead meets The Villiage). This book was much better than the second one though. "
— Jamiekid, 1/31/2014" Not as good as the others, I finished it just to stay up on the story. "
— Tfalcone, 1/24/2014" Wow!! Annah is definately my favorite of the three girls. I loved just about everything in this book. "
— Chandra, 1/8/2014" This book was ok. I loved the original story however this particular story line i had a hard time digesting. If fact, i hated it and couldn't get into the idea of catcher being with someone else. Let alone her sister...call me crazy. However, the zombie thing was done well so i'll give it 2 stars. "
— Lesley, 12/24/2013" As third books often do, this one didn't grip me as much as the previous two. Perhaps something to do with yet another narrator, even with Gabry still present. Elias seemed to completely disappear in this book, which was unfortunate. "
— stickytacky, 12/19/2013" It does a good job of wrapping up the series, and I felt like the author's voice was stronger in this book. "
— Chris, 11/29/2013" Definitely the weakest of Ryan's triology. "
— Amy!, 10/24/2013" Carrie Ryan's writing style is eloquent, seamless and smooth. From (The Forest of Hands and Teeth) to (The Dark and Hollow Places) she leaves you breathless and craving more! "
— Katherine, 4/1/2013" Much bleaker than the previous two books, but becoming a bit formulaic and predictable. The city setting makes the outbreak much easier to relate to (and scarier!), but sometimes this feels like a rehash of the same book with different people. "
— Orlaith, 11/29/2012" Great suspense and intensity. I like that the characters in these books are realistic. They aren't macho butt kicking superheroes, but normal people struggling to survive in a zombie filled world. It did start to fizzle a little bit towards the end, but quickly picked back up again. "
— Weena, 11/23/2012" It was a very good book, I really wish that the series wasn't over. There are my favorite books!! "
— Madison, 9/13/2012" STALLLED! Tragically stalled.. because I'm back in college and the book's not here :( I'm 3/4 of the way done though:D "
— Goge, 5/28/2012" Best Zombie Series ever! This book made my heart jump and I would recomend it. Why aren't there more books like this?!?!? "
— Sierra, 6/30/2011" A very satisfying end to the trilogy. "
— Ami, 6/26/2011" I really enjoyed it by the end, but I was slow to warm up to the main character, Annah. So it just gets 3 stars from me. I love this series though and can't wait for the next one! "
— Julie, 6/24/2011" i couldnt wait for this book! i love zombies , i love the idea of this trilogy, i love everything about it! worth the read. "
— Mana, 6/23/2011" Not as good as the other books.....but it's still good. It has slight jealousy in it.....! "
— Nicole, 6/17/2011" Wow, sooooo awesome! I fell in love with Catcher!!!!! Aghhhhhh! "
— Vica, 6/17/2011" I liked the first book in this series a lot, but 2 & 3 were a little too "Twilighty" for me - just switch out the vampires for zombies :) "
— Alisha, 6/17/2011" You do not want to miss this last enstalment of the forest of hands and teeth trilogy. It is an amazing book and Carrie Ryan knits up the story in a nice warm bundle worthy of praise. "
