Publisher Description

Fans will rejoice as New York's most charming burglar returns to action. Greenwich Village bookseller Bernie Rhodenbarr has perfected the art of breaking and entering, as well as that of clever repartee. Bernie gets plenty of opportunity to exercise both his wit and his lock-picking muscles, as he juggles old friends, new "employees," potential girlfriends, and various criminal charges. Bernie is seriously considering retiring from his life of crime, now that his used bookstore is finally turning a small profit. Then his nasty new landlord raises the rent-by $10,000 a month-and Bernie is hard pressed to resist the temptation to supplement his income. But when a dead body turns up, and an invaluable baseball card collection is missing, who will believe that Bernie had nothing to do with it? Narrator Richard Ferrone's deadpan delivery offers the perfect contrast to Bernie's giddy misadventures. It would be a crime to miss this fabulous performance.

"This was my first Bernie Rhodenbarr mystery. I was very skeptical when I picked it up and learned the main character was a man, not a woman as it was in the movie Burglar (played by Whoopi Goldberg). But I was delighted all the same. The characters are lively, extremely funny and very believable. Lawrence Block has been added to my list of favorite mystery authors. I can't wait to read the entire series."

" Known burglar Bernie Rhodenbarr is trying to give up burglary making a living selling used books. A problem arises when his landlord decides to raise rent 1200%. Bernie can't resist temptation and starts breaking into to houses again. Of course, his first job leads him to a dead body and an arrest for a separate burglary that he didn't commit. Pretty good book with quite a lot of humor. 3 1/2 stars "

" Number 6 in the Bernie Rhodenbarr series, "The Burglar Who Traded Ted Williams" stays true to the formula for the previous stories: Bernie Rhodenbarr is a stealth buglar with ethics. This round Bernie becomes involved with a collection of valuable baseball trading cards. If you are a fan of this light read series, you'll be relieved to learn that this novel remains as entertaining and complex as the others, with characteristic Rhodenbarr-esque plot twists and turns.
