" I think Conn Iggulden's Conqueror series is one of the finest historical fiction epics ever written, and maybe it spoiled me for this story which lacks energy and absorbing interest. The narration is fine, and there are enjoyable stretches of narrative but in the end I was wondering why the author bothered to write the book, which is not a great recommendation. "

Conn Iggulden is the acclaimed author of the Emperor novels, which chronicle the life of Julius Caesar, and the Conqueror series, which is based on the lives of Mongol warlords Genghis, Ogedai, and Kublai Khan. He is also the coauthor of the bestselling nonfiction work The Dangerous Book for Boys. He lives with his wife and two children in Hertfordshire, England.
