At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices - those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal - that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

Writing with a pace and intensity surpassing even her own greatest work, Anita Shreve delivers in Testimony a gripping emotional drama with the impact of a thriller. No one more compellingly explores the dark impulses that sway the lives of seeming innocents, the needs and fears that drive ordinary men and women into intolerable dilemmas, and the ways in which our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions. " This is a pretty heavy book. Not bad, just heavy. Very different from her usual type of story. "

" I listened to the audio version of this book because it was so well reviewed on Amazon. I got about halfway through (and only that far because I'd paid for it and I was mad that I'd paid for it) and decided I would have to waste my money. This book made me feel gross. The characters were poorly drawn, the subject matter was gross (sex scandal involving a 14 year-old girl and three 18 year-old boys). There are so many great works of literature out there that I can't spend any of my time on this kind of rubbish. "

" This was a wonderful story; Anita Shreve never fails to write a great book. "
