Moving from LA to nowhere Minnesota, sixteen-year-old Katla Leblanc expected the local fashion scene to be frozen in time. What she didn’t expect was induction into the Icelandic Stork Society, an ancient order of women charged with a unique mystical duty. Not only is Katla the youngest member, but Hulda, the society’s omen-guided leader, immediately bestows the coveted Second Chair on her—a decision that ruffles a few feathers.
As if that weren’t enough, Katla also has to deal with her parents’ divorce and the social aftermath of a bad date with popular but creepy Wade. Katla, however, isn’t one to sit on her designer-jean-clad behind, and soon she’s assigned the fashion column for the school paper and making new friends.
Things would be looking up if it weren’t for editor in chief Jack. Even though they argue every time they meet, Katla is inexplicably drawn to him. Juggling her home life, school, and Stork duties, will Katla be able to unravel the mystery surrounding Jack? More importantly, will she find a dress in time for Homecoming?
Folktales collide with reality in Wendy Delsol’s debut novel, in which one girl finds herself tail-feathers deep in small-town life.

"Only four stars because Katla was sort of a brat sometimes. I definitely enjoyed this book though because of the unusual usage of myths and legends. Plus, the characters made the book. The only characters that I didn't like were the ones I wasn't supposed to - the concept of this book was really fresh and intriguing. While there was a supernatural element to it, the book was mostly about Katla trying to find her place in a new world she's unused to. I'd definitely recommend it."

" It was very interesting... Jake and Katla were such a cute couple <3 I can't wait for next book in the series. "
— Tanisha, 2/20/2014" I was surprised by how much I liked this book. It wasn't hard to figure out the big mystery halfway through, but I still liked the process of getting there. The characters were lovable and the supernatural part was unique, based on Norse mythology, which we don't see a lot of despite its coolness. "
— Jordan, 2/8/2014" I loved the humour, and enjoyed the original take on Norse/Icelandic mythology. "
— Deborah, 1/30/2014" This was in the YA section of the library and it would be a great book discussion. It started out slow, but got so much more entertaining as the story went on. Spooky in parts, and as powers develop, the story really gets interesting. Highly recommended. "
— Suelibevg, 1/11/2014" Delsol has crafted a great story that literally threads together mythology, family struggles, romance, and fashion. A strong female protagonist with a spot-on voice will engage readers at all levels. This is a wonderful first book for an exciting trilogy. "
— Lisa, 1/11/2014" It was a really good book. I can't wait to read the second book Frost. "
— Riley, 12/10/2013" I read it in less than 24 hours. Our family is Scandanavian and my husband studies Medieval English. This book was a fun fictionalization of legends and such we know. There was some mild language and a lot of focus on the romantic. Nonetheless, I would recommend it a fun read. "
— Heidi, 9/7/2013" So good! Loved, loved Katla's character. Not so much the fashion side of things, but her sarcastic quirky metaphors and reactions are great. Such a cool story too and it seems there will be a second one, which makes up for the lack of a back story to all of the Icelandic magic tales. "
— Samantha, 6/14/2013" I did not like this book so i did not keep reading this book. "
— Laci, 4/5/2013" A little bit of fantasy...as a person who does not LOVE fantasy books, I was surprised by how much I liked this. A girly, but strong female character. Her love interest is adorable. Cute but not mushy. "
— Kelly, 9/5/2012" An awesome blend of folktale and fantasy. Really intriguing plot details and well-developed characters, if a little stereotypical for those who are not the main characters. Really liked it, and read it in one sitting. Hopefully there'd be a sequel! "
— Hp, 8/22/2012" Magical without being annoying. I actually hope there is not a sequel for this one. "
— Janet, 3/17/2012" This was an amazing, unique book, with strong characters, with many facets, and yeah, I can't wait to read the next book! "
— Louisa, 3/16/2012" Yes, I liked it. Just, please, don't tell anyone. I must be getting soft or the glut of YA is getting to me. At any rate, Delsol did a great job keeping my attention in a genre (Teen Paranormal Romance) that I typically hate. "
— Scott, 3/7/2012" Sweet story, couldn't put it down!! "
— Lauren, 9/13/2011" Wonderful...original. Smart and truly imaginative. "
— Jamie, 5/10/2011" This book was cool and I liked the unique concept. I am starting to get over reading books about witches; it was nice to see something different. This book also made me interested in going to Minnesota, I don't know why, and that is something I had never given any thought to before. "
— Andrea, 4/19/2011" I liked this book and am looking forward to the next. I didn't like however that there was no consequence for lying about her dream. In fact, it actually seemed to benefit her. Maybe that will come up in a later book?

Frost, book two in the Stork trilogy, coming Fall of 2011 "
— Naomi, 4/18/2011" One of my favorite kind of books... myth/retelling tale. One drinking scene at the beginning - identified as "stupid" but a drinking scene all the same - would make me only suggest it to older teens and up. An easy, light read. "
— Jamie, 4/13/2011" This was a pleasant surprise. I loved the uniqueness of the storyline. It was really refreshing to read something different from your usual paranormal YA book. This is worth reading. Its highly entertaining and well written. I'm anxious to see what Delsol writes next. "
