A London Times bestseller praised for its irresistible characters, comic timing, and romantic appeal, Stately Pursuits is the story of Hettie Longden, freshly dumped and brokenhearted, who agrees to look after her great-uncle’s long-abandoned mansion in the countryside. She is at something of a lifetime low: no job, no lover, no prospects, and no particular talent for resuscitating crumbling estates. So she hopes for nothing more than a good old-fashioned escape. What she finds, though, is a cast of quirky and ever-present neighbors, a couple of sensitive New Age guys, some very humorless bank officials, two disarming little canines, one gracious, dilapidated, romantic old house—and, just maybe, enough elbow grease to polish everything up again.

"This was the first book in a long time that I read just for fun! I love Katie Fforde because she writes cute, clean romances. This book was probably one of my favorites because of the story line, but I was disappointed that it wasn't as clean as her other books. This is one of her earlier books, and apparently they aren't as clean as her later books."
— Haley (4 out of 5 stars)
“Romantic comedy is one of the hardest things to pull off, requiring aplomb, immaculate timing, and a relish for the absurd. Katie Fforde pays the form a spirited compliment.”
— Elizabeth Buchan, New York Times bestselling author on Katie Fforde“Charming…Enormously enjoyable…Like listening to Cole Porter or watching The Philadelphia Story.”
— Newsday“Fforde’s appeal is her ability to reproduce the eccentricities of everyday life.”
— Times (London)“Cheery, good-natured…The novel has a warm and fuzzy charm, some nice comic scenes, and the usual romantic contretemps.”
— Publishers Weekly“[Stately Pursuits’] colorful cast of characters and wit are delightful enough to raise it above others of this genre. Both male and female voices are highly differentiated and totally in keeping with their characters. This is the great strength of Roe Kendall’s performance.”
— AudioFile“[Those] who enjoy the romantic novels of Jayne Ann Krentz and Nora Roberts will find a similar story here but with a delightful British accent.”
— Library Journal“A delightful, unabashedly unpretentious love yarn.”

— Veronica, 2/5/2014" Awesome book! I love how Katie Fforde has written this, although I was wondering whether it was going to get better, as the beginning didn't appeal to me as such. But thumbs up for the middle and last part. Love it! So juicy!!!! "
— Gizy, 1/26/2014" Really didn't like the love interest in this one - I get liking the gruff/silent but strong type, but this guy has lousy communication skills and insults the heroine without ever apologizing to her later. So much of romance is about escapism, and by escapism I mean putting yourself into that story, and I wouldn't like to be talked to or treated like that. "
— Amy, 1/25/2014" pure cheese, but sometimes thats good "
— Emily, 1/12/2014" While Katie Fforde is still unknown amongst many of my peers, she is one of my top favorite authors. Her charming characters always make for a wonderful story!! This was the first book I read by her, I love it!! "

— Kelly, 10/16/2013" A not very believable story but an easy read. "
— Nicole, 10/10/2013" Making the heroine obtuse for the reason of prolonging the book was super tiring. Whipped to death with a wet noodle half way through the book. Ahhhh! "
