What began as a quest for truth has become a struggle for survival for Luke Skywalker and his son, Ben. They have used the secrets of the Mindwalkers to transcend their own bodies and speak with the spirits of the fallen, risking their very lives in the process. They have faced a team of Sith assassins and beaten the odds to destroy them. And now the death squad's sole survivor, Sith apprentice Vestara Khai, has summoned an entire fleet of Sith frigates to engage the embattled father and son. But the dark warriors come bearing a surprising proposition that will bring Jedi and Sith together in an unprecedented alliance against an evil more ancient and alien than they can imagine.
While the Skywalkers and their Sith allies set off on their joint mission into the treacherous web of black holes that is the Maw, Han and Leia Solo risk arrest and worse to aid the Jedi imprisoned back on Coruscant. Tyrannical Chief of State Natasi Daala has issued orders that will open a permanent schism between her government and the Jedi Order - a schism that could turn all Jedi into renegades and wanted criminals.
But it is in the depths of the Maw that the future of the galaxy will be decided. For there the Skywalkers and their Sith allies will engage a true monster in battle, and Luke will come face-to-face with a staggering truth.

"Above-average for the Fate of the Jedi series... moves along quickly and makes for a fun read. There's a surprise re-appearance of a character from older Star Wars novels but I didn't read them so I can't say whether it "works" or not. " — Jeffrey (4 out of 5 stars)

" This book was head for 1 to 2 star rating until the last 70 pages or so. I didn't enjoy most of the book. I realize that the slavery issue is supposed to be important for Dalaa's character, but it isn't implemented in any way that makes you care about it at all and the entire sidetrip to Klantooine was absolutely unnecssary. I don't care for Golden's writing in this book, and I'm starting to decide I don't like it over all. In "Omen" it was offset by a good story arc, which isn't present throughout in "Allies". This wasn't a terrible novel, but it borders on making me lose interest in the entire FoTJ series. Lets hope Mr. Denning will suprise me in Vortex. "
" Loved this book. It's got awesome twists and turns throughout. "
" Jedi alliance with the Sith, I like it, I mean, it's not like they are the only two force cults in the universe, maybe they should team up more often and obviously I love the Romeo and Juliet, Ben and Vestara story angle. "
" Really, I pretty much keep reading these out of obligation. OK, I'm a Star Wars geek, and everyone needs some brain candy every now and again. "
" Best one of this series so far. "
" meh. i'm reading it to finish the series... i have not really enjoyed these books in years. "
" A much better novel than her last Star Wars outing - Omen. A fast-paced novel that cannot be missed. "
" Good - mysteries set up in the initial few tomes in the series are solved or clarified, but leave plenty of room for continuation. "
" great continuation of the series "
" "All I can say is that this series keeps getting better and better! A monumental alliance between Jedi and Sith. What more can we ask for? Great work by Ms. Golden." "

" Weak characterization and a limp plot. Disappointing. "
" A good part of a story arc. The Jedi and Sith go to confront the creature that has caused the insanity amongst the Jedi while Tahiri former Jedi and Sith is tried for the murder. "
" Best Star Wars Series in a while. "
" Great addition to this series. Like where it's going. "
" Oh no book 5. I'll have to go in search for 1-4 because this is really good. "
" I love this book!! Vortex needs to come out soon! "
" I'm interested to learn what happens next. Her writing style at times can be a bit convuluted. "
" continues the story, but lots of editing mistakes and poor quality of writing "
" The Fate of the Jedi series is really starting to pick up--although I am concerned that with one "big bad" down the rest of the series will turn out to be more tiresome Jedi vs Sith conflict, as if we needed more of that. "
