Commander Benjamin Sisko is just recovering from the death of his wife when he is assigned command over the former Cardassian, but new Federation space station, Deep Space NineTM. This space station is strategically located not only because of its orbit about Bajor, but also because of its proximity to the only known stable wormhole in the galaxy. After meeting the other Bajoran and Starfleet personnel assigned to the station, including a former Bajoran freedom fighter and a shapeshifter, Sisko finds himself in that very wormhole and in the midst of a metaphysical experience as the alien inhabitants of the wormhole question the concepts of time and love. Sisko, filled with humanistic hubris, begins to explain these experiences, and resolve his painful past.

"If I could give this book six stars, it would get it. Easily the best of all the Star Trek Companion books, if you've got the Deep Space Nine series on DVD, it's a must have. It's well written, in depth, and has every juicy tidbit you'd ever want to know about the series - and then some."

" This was a series that did not get the attention it deserved. Exceptionally well-written and insightful, DS9 was the culmination of the original vision (and it's been all downhill since). The Companion gives great backstory to the development and writing of this excellent series. "
— Robert, 10/9/2013" I love this book!!! As much fun as rewatching the series is, watching each episode and then reading the "behind the scenes" pages on it is that much more fun. Absolute brilliance. "
— Victoria, 7/7/2013" A wonderful companion to the Deep Space Nine series. "
— John, 6/9/2011" Awsome insight into how a tv show is made, episode by episode over the course of 7 years "
— Bryn, 1/18/2011" This companion guide has all the episodes of Star Trek Deep Space Nine but also has other information from behind the scenes and why certain things happened in different episodes. "
— Joy, 11/18/2010" The definitive guide to the best Star Trek TV series. "
— Tony, 5/27/2010" Good, solid adaption of the first Deep Space Nine TV episode. "
— Travis, 1/24/2010" Even better than the pilot. It broadens the emotions and relationships without taking them in directions unfaithful to the aired version. "
— Jay, 5/12/2008" I was reading this around the same time I read the ST:TNG pilot novel. Nice thing about novelizations is that they provide additional insights on the characters. Over time, of the series, DS-9 became my favorite, especially later as the series progressed. "
