"I gave this five stars simply because I listened to it on audio (needed something to listen to while driving) and it was read by William Shatner. It's hilarious. He does impressions of castmembers from TOS and TNG, DS9, Voyager... Oy vey. Plotwise, the story is like the ultimate Star Trek fanfic with Kirk as the ultimate Mary Sue. But Shatner's impression of Picard is... amsuing, to say the least."

“The ‘real’ Kirk…adds a satisfying, commercial-free, escapist episode to the apparently endless Star Trek series.”
— Booklist" If it can be said that William Shatner, the man who played Captain James T. Kirk, has written a Mary Sue, this is a Mary Sue. It's Kirk's ultimate fantasy about his final days. "
— Jane, 2/3/2014" I'm a sucker for Shatner's writing style, even if this book was clearly very self-serving in its treatment of Kirk's character. "
— Cassa, 11/26/2013" Surprisingly good. Even more reason to like Shatner "
— Jim, 11/25/2013" Extremely good read with a great twist. It should be a movie, if you ask me. "
— Bob, 11/24/2013" I'm not really into graphic novels. My son liked it and asked if I wanted to read it. So as a Star Trek fan I decided I'd look at it. The graphic novel is based on Shatner's 300 page book. I'm sure the book must be better than the graphic novel. "
— à®, 11/21/2013" This is my next audio, commute time entertainment book. Its read by the author. Could prove interesting. "
— Dave, 11/15/2013" I'm just not into these Shatner books. "
— Bev, 12/29/2012" Pretty darn good Kirk trilogy. I doubt Shatner wrote it though. It's "by" Shatner, but then 2 other authors are labelled inside the book (not on the cover). "
— Tony, 7/4/2012" Remember this one fondly. Don't have it any more but would love to find a kindle copy. "
— Stephen, 7/11/2009" I was completely surprised how much I enjoyed this book, particularly the plot. However, it requires good deal of selective blindness to tolerate Shatner's ginormous ego. Kirk is an expert in Klingon martial arts? Seriously?... "
— Tammy, 4/22/2009" My only gripe is how it fits into the ST universe. This series just seems to defy everything that's already out there. "
— Benjamin, 5/30/2008" A fun story, but the sentence fragments and tiny paragraphs made it lurch uncomfortably to me. "
— Kate, 4/24/2008" Shatnerverse that's all I have to say. Kirk,Kirk, and more Kirk. "
— Darrell, 9/30/2007" I took this book to Harbin with me, and it embarrassed Kevin that I was reading it. "
