Vicky Bliss is a Doctor of Art History who happens to be statuesque and beautiful. But her job at the National Museum in Munich is not enough to keep this intrepid academician entertained. It takes the thrill of an ancient mystery or dangerous romantic adventure to keep Vicky on her toes.

A single crimson rose, a plane ticket to Stockholm, and a confirmed motel reservation all neatly mailed in a mysterious package sound like the formula for a romantic weekend. But with John Smythe, an art thief and Vicky's sometimes lover, nothing is ever as simple as it seems. A note tucked in the bottom of the box seals Vicky's premonitions of disaster and fuels her already insatiable curiosity, it is written in an archaic language even the capable Dr. Bliss cannot decipher.

Hidden treasures, a deadly silhouette artist and the vanishing Mr. Smythe all await Vicky in the land of her Scandinavian ancestors. It could prove to be a journey into romance or terror.

" Not my favorite of the series but still enjoyable. "

" I really don't think I want to ready any more books in this little series. This book was EXTREMELY slow in moving. I think it was about pg 160 before I really knew what was going on and before anything happened. The author but a lot of details and facts about stuff in it that never really lead to a story. The so called storyline could have been summed up in a very very few pages. "

" Dr. Vicky Bliss takes off to Sweden to meet John Smythe and gets dragged into his latest scheme to get a Swedish recluse to let him dig for buried medieval treasures. Of course he is betrayed by his co-conspirators and with the help of Vicky must try and save the day and their own lives. With Vicky there are history and art lessons but the location on a Swedish Island made the book a little less compelling as were the villainous characters. You know too early who the bad guys are it is just a matter of how to outwit and outlast them. "

" Surprised to say I like Elizabeth Peters' variant style in her Vicky Bliss novels as opposed to her Amelia Peabody ones. Fun, easy read. "

" Still really liking this series. I love that we get to visit different places in each book. I also love that Vicky isn't so smart and superior that she never gets herself into tight situations, and yet she never acts in a way that makes me wonder how she could be so stupid. Pure enjoyment! "

" I think I say this after every Vicky Bliss novel, but I really wish she was Amelia Peabody! These books are just ok, never amazing like the Amelias..I just find myself not caring that much about the characters. But, they read quickly and keep you mildly entertained. It also took me an entire day after finishing it to actually understand the title, and I still don't get why there's a cat on the cover. *shrugs* "

" Nice light reading. Love her writing style. Her books just seem timeless. They could be set in any era. This is the 3rd Vicky Bliss, and there are 3 more to go. I hope Vicky and John resolve their issues by the end. "

" #3 for Vicky Bliss. Envy over Vicky's stats aside, John Smythe is a lovely man (and there is some talk of his being a descendant of Sethos, our favorite man of mystery and disguise). "

" I really enjoy Vicki Bliss. This proves that women heroines don't always have to marry the rich man (see my reviews of the Chicklit I have read recently). Vicki is smart, she has the ability to problem solve. She has fun romantic encounters without having to "get married" or "get the man". "

" There wasn't much mystery. I didn't get why Vicky attraced men (particularly bad men) the way she does. Character portrayals were two-dimensional at best, and I don't think I'll bother with another one. "
