A Marriage of Convenience Such is the agreement forged between Lady Jessica Stanton and Simon Warland, Earl of Northcote. Jessica needs a husband strong enough to protect her inheritance from her avaricious stepbrother. Simon needs money to restore the family legacy his father squandered. United by necessity, emotional attachment isn’t part of the deal. An Unexpected Passion Yet once the reluctant newlyweds are living under the same roof, Simon can’t ignore the startling intellect, gentle strength, and graceful beauty Jessica keeps so carefully hidden from the world. And Jessica is intrigued to discover Simon’s formidable temper masks a kind, noble heart. But when Simon’s true motive for their marriage is revealed, Jessica is devastated by his betrayal. Because, despite her best intentions, she is falling in love with her husband. And love is the last thing either of them wants — though it may be exactly what they need. " I really enjoyed this book. There were a few twists in the book which I really enjoyed. I wish it was a series! "

" I don't know why I actually read historical romances. I don't, in general, really LIKE them. That is not to say I don't like Jane Austen, because I do, passionately so. But modern historical romances are just not the same. Silent Revenge is basically the same, but may be slightly better written, and I wasn't AS embarrassed to read it as the rest of what I have encountered. It was more or less what one expects from a Victorian romance. The "steamy" scenes could be passed through on the quick painlessly, and the rest was fun enough, though since most of the plot hung on people not actually telling each other things it got a bit thin here and there. A respectable example of the genre, I guess. Anyone reading this review had better take it with a grain of salt, since it's the genre I don't as a rule enjoy. Over and over again I'm sucked into reading it because of a description that sounds really fun, and it never fulfills its promise when you actually read the book. So, still on the lookout for that PERFECT historical romance. ;) I may give another of the genre a try in a month or so. "

" This was a rather dark sort of book highlighting insecurities and the evil side of man. While it wasn't my favorite book it wasn't terrible. Some language here and there and some provocative parts(although the characters are married). Not one I would recommend or read again. "

" Great fast read. I enjoyed the the story line and the fact that the lead female was not perfect but she also was not a weak woman. "

" Okay. I finished it but it did not have the emotional impact I thought the story would (and should!) have. The author somehow didn't get at my emotions the way one others do. "

" The dark parts were darker than expected for an historical romance. There was some descriptive element missing. The story never flowed, and it could have. Yes, like most romance it was cliched, but not beyond bearing. Better writing would have carried the day. I will read others, as it was good. "

" Weak plot revolves around characters not knowing important, obvious details. "

" I took a punt on this when it was cheap in the Amazon sale. It's not bad. The premise is a bit thin, with the odd gaping hole, the villain's so villainous as to be cartoonish, but the other characters were quite engaging and it was a nice light read for when I was ill! "
