Publisher Description

In just six days, Lady Jessica Stanton will turn twenty-five and inherit enough money to make her one of England’s wealthiest women. And when that happens, her stepbrother Colin will swoop in to take it all—along with her freedom. The only solution: find a husband strong enough to stand up to Colin. But even if she’s able to find someone able to protect her, what man will marry her once they discover her secret?

Not only is Simon Westland, Earl of Northcote, bankrupt, but the London gossip continues to speculate that he had a hand in the untimely death of his wastrel father. Now he is desperate to find a woman to keep him from losing everything. But what woman will want to marry a suspected murderer?

Thrown together by sheer necessity, Jessica and Simon agree that theirs will be a marriage of convenience. But no legal document can protect Jessica’s heart when she learns of Simon’s hidden motive for marrying her. For despite her best intentions, Jessica has fallen in love with her husband. And love is the last thing either of them wants—though it may be exactly what they both need.

"I don't know why I actually read historical romances. I don't, in general, really LIKE them. That is not to say I don't like Jane Austen, because I do, passionately so. But modern historical romances are just not the same. Silent Revenge is basically the same, but may be slightly better written, and I wasn't AS embarrassed to read it as the rest of what I have encountered. It was more or less what one expects from a Victorian romance. The "steamy" scenes could be passed through on the quick painlessly, and the rest was fun enough, though since most of the plot hung on people not actually telling each other things it got a bit thin here and there. A respectable example of the genre, I guess. Anyone reading this review had better take it with a grain of salt, since it's the genre I don't as a rule enjoy. Over and over again I'm sucked into reading it because of a description that sounds really fun, and it never fulfills its promise when you actually read the book. So, still on the lookout for that PERFECT historical romance. ;) I may give another of the genre a try in a month or so."

" This was a rather dark sort of book highlighting insecurities and the evil side of man. While it wasn't my favorite book it wasn't terrible. Some language here and there and some provocative parts(although the characters are married). Not one I would recommend or read again. "

" The dark parts were darker than expected for an historical romance. There was some descriptive element missing. The story never flowed, and it could have. Yes, like most romance it was cliched, but not beyond bearing. Better writing would have carried the day. I will read others, as it was good. "

" I took a punt on this when it was cheap in the Amazon sale. It's not bad. The premise is a bit thin, with the odd gaping hole, the villain's so villainous as to be cartoonish, but the other characters were quite engaging and it was a nice light read for when I was ill! "
