"Bernard Cornwell does a marvelous job of portraying the conflict in India, while developing Richard Sharpe's character. The battle scenes in the book are vividly represented in his writing. I especially enjoyed Cornwell's description of troop movements, weapons and the actual hand-to-hand clashes that occur. It takes in-depth research and a knowledge of the battlefield to verbally paint a picture of fear, strength, quick-thinking and motivation portrayed by Sharpe to stay alive while attaining his goal. Sharpe's advancement, further conflict with Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill and the relationships with Scottish Colonel Hector McCandless and General Arthur Wellesley keep the reader focused and anxious to see what happens next."

" Fantastic read, Sharpe is sooo cool and I just love the books. "
— Ingrid, 1/30/2014" I gave the series 2 books and I'm still just not feeling it as much as some of his other series.... "
— Becca, 1/24/2014" great author who interweaves history into a story that is easily followed and hard to put down "
— Jason, 1/20/2014" Finalmente i personaggi iniziano ad acquistare spessore, e la storia, soprattutto negli ultimi capitoli, smette di trascinarsi e si fa interessante. "
— Alessandro, 1/19/2014" This guy has more lives then everybody. "
— Malia, 12/26/2013" Once again, like the previous in the series, good book, bad ebook. It looks like the publisher put little or no effort into converting the book to an ebook. It looks like they scanned the book, OCRed it, and then didn't fix any of the OCR mistakes. "
— Tom, 12/25/2013" Always interested in learning a little more about the past and places I will never got to. "
— James, 12/4/2013" This was good, but it really dragged in places. There was a bit of an overburden of description. The action and the dialogue were great. Never get involved in a land war in Asia - when you're going to be fighting a Scottish regiment. "
— J.D., 11/29/2013" The second in the series shows Sharpes rise from the ranks to become an officer, while explaining the problems he is likely to face in the future. Also depicts Wellingtons victory at Assaye. Another excellent book in the series. "
— John, 9/26/2013" I enjoyed these India Sharpes. I was always disappointed that they hadn't been written, and am now quite content. "
— Bill, 6/26/2013" The second Sharpe book set in India and spends more time examining the beginnings of Sharpe. "
— Katie, 3/16/2013" This was a fun audio book that definitely kept me alert while driving! "
— Jane, 12/26/2012" Starts a little slow then becomes impossible to put down. "
— Smokinjbc, 8/26/2012" It's a relatively heavy reading, with all detail and historical background. not really a page turner, but anyone who are looking for historical fiction would like this books "
— Rendy, 7/3/2012" The second installment of Cornwell's wonderful Sharpe series. Great fun! "
— Jeffrey, 6/8/2012" Another great book in the Sharpe series. "
— Jimmy, 3/4/2012" Entertaining. Not as intriguing as the first (Sharpe's Tiger), but sufficiently enjoyable that I'll probably read another.... "
— Steve, 11/27/2011" could not put it down. bit of a 'boys own' adventure but brilliant. I must do the rest of the set. "
— Grahambootle, 9/28/2011" I highly recommend reading these books in order. This was an important book in developing the Sharpe character, which I liken to an earlier, earthier James Bond. "
— Rob, 6/6/2011" It's a relatively heavy reading, with all detail and historical background. not really a page turner, but anyone who are looking for historical fiction would like this books "
— Rendy, 6/3/2011" Enjoy story of the adventure of Sharpe's role in the military in Europe in the early 1800s. "
— Owen, 3/3/2011" Good battle descriptions. Growing tired of Sargeant Hakeswill. "
— Bobby, 1/12/2011" Very glad that sergeant won't be around anymore. I almost did not read this one after he survived the first one. Sharpe's adventures are interesting enough without such a trivial nemesis. "
— John, 12/29/2010" I really liked the Sharpe Series. Fun Read, about British Military Life. "
— Tom, 9/21/2010" I'm now officially addicted to Richard Sharpe novels (by Bernard Cornwell)... "
— Melissamiller, 8/21/2010" Fun read, again another series during the Napoleonic wars "
— Jake, 7/4/2010" Another enjoyable read. I particularly like the way Cornwell finds a suitable gap in historical records to place Sharpe. "
