Gossip Girl meets the Gilded Age in this delicious and compelling novel, the second in the New York Times bestselling series from author Anna Godbersen.
As old friends become rivals, Manhattan’s most dazzling socialites find their futures threatened by whispers from the past. In this delicious sequel to the New York Times bestselling The Luxe, nothing is more dangerous than a scandal...or more precious than a secret.
True love. False friends. Scandalous gossip. This is Manhattan, 1899.
After bidding good-bye to New York’s brightest star, Elizabeth Holland, rumors continue to fly about her untimely demise.
All eyes are on those closest to the dearly departed: her mischievous sister, Diana, now the family’s only hope for redemption; New York’s most notorious cad, Henry Schoonmaker, the flame Elizabeth never extinguished; the seductive Penelope Hayes, poised to claim all that her best friend left behind—including Henry; even Elizabeth’s scheming former maid, Lina Broud, who discovers that while money matters and breeding counts, gossip is the new currency.
“Mystery, romance, jealousy, betrayal, humor, and gorgeous, historically accurate details. I couldn’t put The Luxe down!” —Cecily von Ziegesar, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Gossip Girl series

"After reading this book in the series, I'm liking it more. The characters are definitely becoming more multi-faceted and I feel Godbersen is fully hitting her stride. It's probably a good comparison to go with the first was like tv pilot; it wasn't the best in the series, but it set up the characters nicely, and now it's developing nicely."
— Gretchen (4 out of 5 stars)
“Godbersen’s sophomore effort does not disappoint…Another delicious read that will captivate teenaged girls.”
— VOYA“Exciting, fast paced, and hard to put down, this book is a great read.”
— Children’s Literature" A good sequel to The Luxe, but definitely not a five-star read for me. The historical facts are detailed and accurate, and the story doesn't bore. "
— Bhumi, 2/17/2014" I didn't really feel sympathetic to any of the characters so it was a struggle for me to finish this book. I'm not reading the rest of the books in the series...I read some "spoilery" reviews of the last two books and that was enough for me. "
— Kbs, 2/16/2014" Not as exciting as the first book. A bit disappointing really. "
— Himmelle, 2/2/2014" Hated the end. Good read but not a "can't put it down" book. Took me about 3 weeks for a 400 page book. Longer than my normal timeline. I can't decide if I'm going to read the next book. Probably more like 2.5 stars "
— Kilee, 1/28/2014" LOVED all the Luxe series. Could read 10 more books! "
— Cecily, 1/23/2014" I liked this one better than the last, but some endings aren't happy... "
— Katie, 1/21/2014" Not much substance, but for a young adult novel, it was entertaining. "
— Sue, 1/10/2014" Hmmm, another duaghter-recommended book. I understand why she loves these so much. I probably would too if I were 15. I guessed most of it - should have been a writer of teen fiction, I guess! Cute, and absolutely what some reviewer said: The OC with big dresses and lots of hair... "
— Patricia, 1/9/2014" This is book two in The Luxe series and was not as good as the first book. The first book was fantastic but this one slowed down a bit until the very end. I will still pick up the third book in the series to see what happens. Overall, the series is a good "guilty pleasure" book for women. "
— Lisa, 12/12/2013" I just love these books! They are easy to read and such a fun story. I love the twists and turns in it and I can't wait to read the next one. "
— Leighanne, 11/2/2013" This book was still good, I thought, it was a wonderful second installment of the series. "
— Susie, 10/23/2013" Just when you think happily ever after...things are twisted and I must read the next book!! "
— Jennie, 10/2/2013" Good as! Could not stop crying "
— Alison, 8/2/2013" While I enjoyed reading Rumors, I found this one a bit slower than The Luxe...that is until the last 80 pages or so - then I couldn't stop. I look forward to reading the next one. "
— Erino, 7/29/2013" Very good book, unexpected twists and turns all throughout the book. "
— Jema, 7/13/2013" this is aimed at young adults but i think the Luxe series is an exciting read for adults as well! the characters are excellent, fun and three dimensional and the history and fashion of the turn of the century makes for a great read. "
— Ruby, 12/20/2012" Good continuation i hope the third is a bit better. "
— Rebecca, 11/7/2012" Very light reading, actually too light for my taste. "
— Helinä, 7/29/2012" Rumors are deep dark secrets that enventually come out "

— Ruby, 6/26/2011" I love the interaction between Diana and Henry. I feel like this is the book that gets the ball rolling. "
— Jess, 6/23/2011" I for sure liked this book better when it was called The Age of Innocence and was by Edith Wharton, but so what. I'm still going to read the third one. "
— Emily, 6/18/2011" FABULOUS<br/>However when Will died, I had a serious break down. WHYYYY?!!?!! "

— Jeni, 6/5/2011" WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT? Is will DEAD??????? and I hate penelope. I hate her!! "
— Ariel, 6/1/2011" Light read. Turn of the century Old New York society. "
— Susan, 5/29/2011" Read the first so I had to keep going. The first was one of those books that you couldn't just stop at the first, whereas with Twilight you would be totally ok with just once. "
— Kelsey, 5/25/2011" Enjoyable still same as the first. "
— Kara, 5/20/2011" Really enjoyed the whole series. It's jane austen meets gossip girl. Loved reading every book. "
— Cariza, 5/19/2011" This second book was entertaining, but that's all. I'm just not sure there is enough material for the last 2 books. We'll see. "
— Lynsey, 5/17/2011" Very light reading, actually too light for my taste. "
