"And I saw full surely that ere God made us He loved us; which love was never slacked nor ever shall be. And in this love He hath done all His works, and in this love He hath made all things profitable to us, and in this love our life is everlasting." Julian of Norwich saw this love as the answer to the problems of confusion, division, and evil in the world. More than 600 years later, Christians are still struggling with these issues, and Revelations of Divine Love is persistently powerful. At the height of medieval European mysticism, Julian, a Benedictine nun in England received 16 visions of the Trinity and the suffering of Christ. After spending 20 years meditating upon what she had seen during her prolonged ecstasy, she began to write about her visions. Her message to her fellow European mystics and the rest of Christendom was that full knowledge of God required knowledge of self.

"This is one of those books to which I come back, often not for long, but always with pleasure. The gentleness, humility and utter faith shine through. Its naivety is a rebuke but also a reassurance to our age. "

" First female writer of the English language. "
— K, 12/14/2010" Great book...need I say more... "
— Jay, 7/9/2010" This edition only contains the long version. I am searching for the edition that contains both the short and long versions of Dame Julian's work (when I find it, I will add it and give it a five-star rating) "
— David, 7/2/2009" There are some very good references and revelations in this book which goes back to the 14th century, but I found I had to plow through of lot of that was not all that useful for today. "
— Frank, 9/5/2008" A bit out of my comfort zone, but what a woman! Still retained that British pragmatism, or so they say. Pick and chose your bits from these, that's the best one can do. "
— Patrick\, 4/21/2008" Back when I identified myself as a Christian, this book moved me to tears. It's still powerful, no matter who you are. "
— Elly, 3/14/2008Julian of Norwich (c.1342–c.1416) was a reclusive medieval English mystic and spiritual writer. She was an anchoress at the church of St. Julian, Norwich, where she received sixteen visions, which she recounted as she lay on what was believed to be her deathbed. Her miraculous recovery from that illness led to twenty more years of reflection and contemplation and finally to her writing about her visions in Revelations of Divine Love.
