Drag queen Vera Reynolds swayed on-stage singing "Falling in Love Again." And a sixteen-year-old boy lay in Vera's fire-engulfed apartment … very, very dead. He was a "rent boy," a sex-for-hire street kid who catered to the tastes of special customers. It was the kind of murder Soho's Vice Squad saw often. But the influential do-gooder who was a prime suspect in this one made the young boy's death different—a ticking bomb able to blast open the nasty, secret lives of politicians, judges … and cops. Detective Jane Tennison had moved up the career ladder through sheer guts and an unstoppable passion for justice. Now, on her first day as the head of the Vice Squad, she caught a case threatening to wreck her career. She had been told whom to arrest—and whom to back off from—in the murder of the rent boy. And she couldn't go with the program. She knew a destroyer of children was out there. She knew she had a choice: to save her future or go after him like an avenging angel, and damn the consequences to hell…

"Just finished book 3 of the Prime Suspect series. I loved the tv show with Helen Mirren, and really enjoyed the books. Lots of gritty characters, complicated plots, and the interesting character, Jane Tennison. Love her or not, it makes for gripping reading!"

" I don't usually read mysteries but I really enjoyed this Jane Tennyson story. She is such a tough yet flawed heroine. "
— John, 3/7/2013" Part of a special omnibus edition with all three books in the series. While I enjoyed these, they are pretty gritty and depressing. Both the crimes themselves and the general treatment of women. "
— Catherine, 1/23/2013" Fabulous read. DI Tennyson on the trail. There are so many people in this book I had to write them down to keep track but that said, riveting read. Quick also, this was easily a one sitting read. Gritty, compelling. "
— Sharon, 10/28/2012" This is the last in a three book series. This was not as good as the first two, as the ending was too ambiguous, but, still. fun to read. "
