Publisher Description

When the body of a young woman is discovered close to a highway service station, Detective Inspector Anna Travis is brought on to the team of investigators by her former lover and boss, Detective Chief Superintendent Langton. As more evidence is uncovered, the team realizes that they are contending with a triple murder investigation—and no suspect.

But then a murderer Anna helped arrest years ago makes contact from prison. Cameron Welsh insists that he can help track down the killer, but he will divulge his secrets only to Anna herself. Does he really have an insight into another criminal's mind, or is he merely intent on getting into hers?

The team soon realizes that they are dealing with a killer whose deviousness has enabled him to commit horrific crimes, yet remain undetected for years. As the case draws to a close, Welsh's obsession for Anna fuels a terrifying rage that will have disastrous consequences for Anna, who finds herself staring into the face of a desperate personal tragedy.

"Wow! Another brilliant novel by Lynda la Plante in the Anne Travis series. In am completely involved with the characters in these books and laugh and cry and fret just as much as they do whilst reading these books. This is yet another gripping detective story with a nail biting plot. Although the outcome in regards to the plot was a bit expected the twists in Anna's personal story were astonishing. I was left wondering whether Langton will ever fess up to his continuing deep love for Anna and whether she will ever overcome her grief and disappointment to let him back in. I really hope these two will find love (together)."

" Yeah - liked this one too. It's a good thriller - a bit different in that they have the prime suspect early on but need to prove it. Ni thought the side story of Anna Travis falling in love, getting engaged then losing him all in the same book was a little far fetched? "

" The beginning of the book is very like Hannibal Lecter and I was almost disappointed with it but as the story progressed I enjoyed it more and more. I thought the story line and the action was good. The only thing that didn't add up for me was the Polish girls names as none of them sound Polish (apart from Dorota - which is a Polish name). This made me doubt in author credibility a little bit but never the less I really liked the book. "

" This my first foray into this author's written work. I've seen some of her previous books on film. This one focuses on the investigating of a crime spree, the many false leads, the drudgery of police work and finally the culmination and solving of the case. A few times I had, wrongly, concluded outcomes due to the twisted plot. A good read nonetheless. "

" I still really enjoy the "Anna Travis" series, but I am getting a bit bored with the failure of her personal relationships. I don't want to view her as a sad, lonely victim. So, in that regard, this book was a bit disappointing. And the various multitude of puzzling clues became a chore. "
