"If you're looking for a deeper prayer life, this may be the book for you. I began reading Prayer along with a group of women as part of an online book club, and had no clue what I was getting into. I have to be honest, there were chapters that were intimidating and difficult to get through; there were also those chapters that I will likely re-read in the future. There is a ton of good stuff in this book. I spent a good amount of time highlighting sections and re-reading them. The main "take away" point for me is that we, as imperfect and sinful as we are, get to have this amazing relationship with our Heavenly Father, if we choose to go there. In addition, the act of praying has purpose. Prayer is a well-written guide for those desiring to get closer and go deeper in this relationship with Him."

" One of the best books I've read on the Christian life. An extraordinarily wise book. More surprising though was the fact that this book on prayer (an area in which I am so aware of my shortcomings) is not so much "convicting" or "challenging" as it is comforting and encouraging. "

" I should probably start reading this one again today... and then the day after I finish it the next time... and then I should just keep reading it over and over again for the entirety of my lifetime. SO MUCH information, but not hard to read. It is a great, "Meet you where you are" conversation on prayer, offering a lot for the reader to reflect on, personalize and internalize for growth. I really enjoyed reading it with a small group of close friends for the sake of the conversation and processing. Each time we discussed, it was rich and wonderful. "

" What I love about Richard Foster is that he is steeped in the story of the church. He is not bound within the narrow constraints of a particular strain of Christianity but seeks to know what the Spirit of God has been doing since Pentecost. What results is a rich book on prayer, exploring a variety of kinds of prayer that I would not expect. Some of the chapters I have my doubts on (the prayer of contemplation, the prayer of authority), but they challenged me to stretch. "

" Foster focuses on varying types of prayers and how to develop them within your prayer life. I found it a very interesting book with an in depth view of prayer and the roles it can play in your life. I used it as a daily devotional covering a chapter a day. I would highly recommend it for anyone who wants to go deeper into their prayer life. "

" Explores all the types of prayer- very enlightening. Love this author; he writes with a good mix of biblical examples and practical examples of different types. Also wrote Celebration of Discipline- haven't read that, though. "

" This was a difficult book for me. I like Foster's other books. "Celebration of Disciplines" was a life changing. "Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home" just felt very academic to me. Perhaps I will let it sit for a while and read it again... Just to see if my insight changes. "
