Pinocchio is the best puppet story ever. Listeners will quickly be caught up in Carlo Collodi's impish creation as they are swept along at an action-packed pace. From the day when Geppetto first carves Pinocchio from a piece of wood to the final happy ending - with many exciting and dangerous adventures along the way - Pinocchio will charm and captivate. The story also has a strong moral throughout, which is as suitable for children (and adults!) today as when the original book was written.

This recording has been abridged from a translation of the original text, which was first published in 1883. It remains faithful to the book from which Walt Disney adapted his famous animated version.

" Disney has nothing on Collodi. my favorite story of all time so far. a classic morality tale. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Sara | 2/9/2014

" Very morbid children's tale. Although I had to read this for class, I expected to be entertained by what I had hoped to be an exciting book. My expectations failed me as I found myself getting more and more bored by Pinnochio's journey. Recommendation: Just watch the movie. It's ten times better. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Troy Erickson | 2/7/2014

" This is not the disney fairy tale but the original with sex, and violence, and weirdness. Sooo... much better! The Disney version is from excerpts of three of the chapters I suppose... "

" This is my third time reading this book. It is a rare gem that many overlook because of the Disney movie. I highly recommend it to all. It has a lot more in it than the movie covers. It is very symbolic and even terrifying at times...really good stuff...one of my favorites. "

" Having heard the story told to me for about a million times by mother who used to pinch my nose while describing that lies make them grow longer or that I might grow long donkey ears if I continue to be naughty. Its a treat reading it myself for the first time. Pinnochio is truly magical in quality. "

" Pinocchio is often considered as a book for kids and youngsters. On the contrary, it is a deep and awesome example of wise moral teaching and fills the reader's mind with deep questions on the true essence of life, duty and happiness. AWESOME! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Amanda | 6/26/2011

" Disney really edited this.... a cross between the gingerbread man (pinocchio) and the giving tree (geppetto)

as near as I can tell, this version is not a retelling. compared with Rand McNally & Company 1939. skimmed the text and it appears the same :) "

" Not the edition we had when I was a child(50's) but close enough. I don't know
that I'd recognize the cover even if it was in the lookup list. Some of my first book/look/reading experience. Date read is just approximate. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Amy | 5/16/2011

" I had never read the real story and was surprised by how different it is than the Walt Disney version. In the book it takes Pinocchio much longer to become a good boy and he is also blatantly naughty in the book as opposed to being deceived into being naughty in the movie. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Frank | 5/14/2011

" My my. Such a naughty boy.. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Matthew | 5/10/2011

" On the whole, this has to be the least satisfying classic I've read over the past couple of months. I genuinely disliked nearly every character in the book, with special emphasis on Pinocchio. I was rooting for the fireplace rather than the real boy angle. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Tanya | 5/8/2011

" This is now one of my FAVORITE childrens books! This book teaches so much about life, has symbolism, and moves quickly. Everyone would run to hear this when it was time to read! "
