Barrie works an indisputable magic on listeners of all ages in this classic tale of the boy who wouldn’t grow up. As a baby, Peter Pan fell out of his carriage and was taken by fairies to Neverland. There, he can fly and is the champion of the Lost Boys and a friend to the fairy Tinker Bell. Revisiting England, Peter becomes involved with Wendy Darling and her younger brothers, all of whom accompany Peter to Neverland. The children have many adventures and vanquish the pirate Captain Hook. The Darlings eventually return home with the Lost Boys, leaving Peter Pan to his perpetual boyhood.
Since Peter Pan first appeared as a play in 1904, the boy hero has achieved mythological status in the English-speaking world. The story’s emotional truths about youth, freedom, and responsibility continue to touch the heart and thrill the imagination.

"Charming, enchanting, sweet, break-your-heart sad, and surprisingly deep. I was also surprised by Peter's tyrannical character! And what a little b*tch Tinker Bell is (but still very lovely). This is a story which should be read to every child on the planet. Absolutely better than all its adaptations though they did their part in enhancing my reading of this classic. Loved it!"

“There are approximately one million versions of English literature’s original ‘orphan children being menaced by an unhinged adult’ story, Peter Pan, on the audiobook market. But the performance that is the most comforting to settle into is Peter Cazenove’s warm, measured narration from 2010. Not only will Peter Pan’s subject matter appeal to ASoUE fans, but Barrie’s prose—like Snicket’s—is extremely conversational, and Cazenove reads it with a conspiratorial grandfatherliness that fans of ASoUE will adore.”

From the moment Peter flies in through the open nursery window, Cazenove delivers the story of Peter and the Darling children with a sense of adventure. In a distinctive British voice Cazenove gives a definitive personality to each character…Families will enjoy this audio treat.”
— AudioFile" Beautiful story. Surprisingly adult at times, especially those fairies! If you can get an illustrated edition, it's worth it. "
— Harry, 2/20/2014" This is one of those childhood-scarring books... illustrated in 3D using the world's most creepy AS dolls. *shudders* "
— Sally, 2/4/2014" Wonderful. Read at least once a year "
— Sue, 2/2/2014" Much wittier than expected, a great book to read to your kids. "
— ThomasAD, 1/29/2014" Another classic; surprisingly more simple than the adaptations. Good story, of course "
— Nancy, 1/18/2014" Peter is a bit of a pompous, naughty little boy but (somehow) still entirely lovable. Peter Pan (the book) was surprisingly charming and a fun book to read. Fantasy and adventure, ahoy! Also, this book was beautifully written. I recommend that everyone checks out this book at least once. "
— Erica, 1/14/2014" Sad that I missed out on this one growing up, but I'm glad I finally got around to it. "
— Eruwenn, 1/13/2014" Was surprised at the differences between this book and the play and shows I have seen. Much darker book and I enjoyed it. "
— Jake, 1/5/2014" I think I preferred the film if I am honest! I found the story wordy and a little dull. But then, I think I would have enjoyed it, had I still be a ten year old. "
— Alice, 12/29/2013" I had seen the Disney movie more times than I can count, as well as the movie Hook, but I had never actually read the book. The book is marvelous! It is different from the movies in so many wonderful ways. It is worth reading and I will definitely read it to my children. "
— Rebecca, 12/6/2013" The best adventure/love story around. "
— Celtgal, 11/29/2013James Matthew Barrie (1860–1937) was born in Scotland, the son of a weaver and the ninth of ten children. His mother saw to it that he was educated, despite the family’s low income. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and spent two years on the Nottingham Journal before settling in London as a freelance writer in 1885. His short stories, essays, and novels were well received, and he began to gain a fine reputation as a playwright. His most enduring work is Peter Pan, which is based on stories he made up for children in his neighborhood.
Christopher Cazenove (1943–2010), one of England’s finest actors, starred on stage and television in the United States and Great Britain. His motion-picture credits include A Knight’s Tale, Eye of the Needle, Children of the Full Moon, and Jennie: Lady Randolph Churchill. He played Ben Carrington on television’s Dynasty.
