Now published in the United States for the first time—an early novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Giver of Stars Isabel Delancey, a classical violinist, has always taken her comfortable life for granted. But when her husband dies suddenly, leaving her with a mountain of debt, she and her two children are forced to abandon their home and move to the Spanish House, a now-dilapidated manor Isabel inherited in the English countryside. With the house falling down around them, and the last of her savings disappearing fast, Isabel turns to her neighbors for help, not knowing that her mere presence there has stirred up long-standing obsessions. As she fights to make her house a home, passions and lives collide. Isabel will discover an instinct for survival she never knew she had— and that a heart can play a new song. . . .

"I was quite annoyed with Isabel, although she was grieving, she was such a wimp! How could anyone be that selfish and self centered. However, she did get a bit better and I finally warmed to her. Jojo does write such good stories and I've loved all her books. She has still to better 'Me before you', I wait in anticipation for her new book."

" This is my least favourite of the 3 JoJo Moyes books that I have read so far, but nevertheless it's an enjoyable, easy read. "
— Debbie, 1/30/2014" An easy lose yourself read. I enjoyed the music greatly, moyes has a lovely way of relating this to the reader. Most of the characters were believable and the way the story unfolds had me engrossed to the end. "
— Sally, 1/27/2014" A wall thrower for me. Liked her other books but couldn't get into this one. I don't mind darkness, but the unrelenting gloom of the first half finished it for me. "
— Ruth, 1/25/2014" Unlike "Silver bay" this one didnt hold my interest. "
— Susana, 1/24/2014" really got into this one - couldnt put it down, read in less than 24 hours "
— Ebony, 1/23/2014" Another great read from Jojo Moyes. This is the only one of hers so far not to make me cry, but was no less brilliant for that. A real page turner with, as ever, beautifully well drawn characters you grow to care deeply about. Pure escapism, a pleasure to read. "
— Hazel, 1/20/2014" A nice easy read, reminiscent of Maeve Binchy for me, ideal if your mind is on other things! Not as gripping as Ship of Brides but still enjoyable. "
— Teresa, 1/20/2014" 3.75 - I liked it. "
— Christina, 12/21/2013" This is my least favourite JoJo Moyes book to date. I couldn't stand the mother and all elase followed from there. Quite a disappointment "
— Karen, 10/14/2013" Oh, yes, quite a page-turner. "
— Kathy, 8/16/2013" What a wonderful read!! Great book... "
— Danielle, 7/7/2013" Just found the ending a bit flat. Not because it was more 'real', I liked that, but it seemed to build promisingly to a crescendo that never quite paid off. "
— Kylie, 6/13/2013" Was a bit boring in parts. Pretty average. "
— Paula, 5/5/2013" Another great book by Jo Jo Moyes, can't wait to read the next one. "
— Susan, 10/7/2012" I have just discovered Jojo Moyes thanks to a friend giving me one of her books recently. Very well written and this was an enjoyable read albeit the ending was a bit cliched. Excellent holiday reading. "
— Suzanne, 9/28/2012" I'm another one who was very disappointed with this. Having read other books by Jojo Moyes which I liked a lot, I found the story very flat and dull. The characters were just not interesting or engaging enough to keep me interested. Gave up on it but hasn't put me off other books by the author. "
— Daffy, 1/3/2012" This isnt her best work, its a nice little story, but I found it rather dull and I really had to fight the urge to just leave it and not finish it. "
— Lea, 5/5/2011" A wall thrower for me. Liked her other books but couldn't get into this one. I don't mind darkness, but the unrelenting gloom of the first half finished it for me. "
— Keziah, 4/30/2011" not as good as others by this author. My favourite and the first one i read is 'Peacock Emporium' "
— Sue, 7/23/2010" This is my least favourite JoJo Moyes book to date. I couldn't stand the mother and all elase followed from there. Quite a disappointment "
— Karen, 4/23/2010" A nice easy read, reminiscent of Maeve Binchy for me, ideal if your mind is on other things! Not as gripping as Ship of Brides but still enjoyable. "
— Teresa, 11/7/2008" I really like Jojo Moyes to read. Interesting yet undemanding, and I don't mean that as a criticism. Think I liked the story about the wartime wives the best, but enjoyed this title immensely as a relaxing read. "
