“Little is written about Julia Dent Grant, though her husband was well known. This book features romance, the conflict of war, and the complicated relationships slaves had with their masters. The battles are described in detail, but they do not overwhelm, nor do they overshadow the main topic. Chiaverini is a talented author who clearly did her research.”
