Mattimeo should have been named "trouble." Always getting into mischief and quick to lose his temper, the young mouse seems an unlikely candidate to take up the great sword once wielded by the legendary Martin to defend Redwall Abbey's peaceful way of life. But when Mattimeo and his friends are kidnapped by the fierce fox Slagar the Cruel, the bold little mouse learns that there is far more to becoming a true warrior than simply brandishing a sword. Brian Jacques' Redwall books have sold millions of copies worldwide.

"Forgot that this one was a little darker than the previous two. The children get kidnapped. Colin's doing ok with it but I'm making a conscious effort to read more of the chapters in the daytime. In hindsight I would have skipped this one since the series doesn't really go in chronological order."

“Rip-roaring adventure at its very best…exquisitely executed and totally bewitching…Brian Jacques, with his masterly use of lanuage and eviable talent for descriptive prose that transports the reader to the very heart of Redwall, magically weaves an epic tale breathtaking in proportion and design. Utterly addictive, Mattimeo is packed with so much color, passion, fury, and love that it will leave readers desperate for more.”
— Amazon.com, editorial review“Truly thrilling…a swashbuckling heroic adventure. Jacques’ realistically drawn characters are full of personality, from the most humble bankvole to the foppish, lop-eared rabbit and the vicious, backstabbing fox. The fierceness with which the Redwallers fight back to save their young lends the story credibility within the realm of the animal kingdom, while at the same time taking wonderful liberties with the imagination.”
— Publishers Weekly“Magnificently read by the author and a full cast, the production is one of exuberant performances…Musical underscoring is used to good advantage, never distracting from Jacques’ exquisitely descriptive language or the enthusiastic performances of the cast. Thrilling storytelling.”
— AudioFile“Jacques and a blustery crew of hammy British actors read this epic fantasy…The actors bring conviction to their roles, whether playing regal badgers, daft stoats, or furry villains, and when performing songs…[an] action-packed, humor-laced adventure.”

— Marcus, 6/13/2011" Kind of long and involved, but still a fun read, and easy to read in little chunks if that's what you need. The villains are particularly rotten, the heroes are quite heroic. "
— Margo, 4/16/2011" Great fiction book! If you like talking animals and blood thirsty animals then i guess this is the book forr you. Usual when a author tries to make a secual out of a really good first book it sometime s fails, but not this book. It made the first book RedWall look even better. "

I could see the whole picture in my head. overall this book rocks!!!!!!!!!! "
— Henry, 1/18/2011" I did not in fact enjoy this book as much as I did the others.. I found it to be funny, yes, but truth is, I found myself not really liking Mattimeo at the begining. He strained things a lot when it came to his interactions. But, his character development was actually good and well done. "
— Book_lover, 1/9/2011" I really enjoyed this book, even more than the first two. It made me cry right along with the characters as they struggled to keep their hopes up and get through the difficult season. "
