"I listened to the unabridged version of this delightful book and was thoroughly entertained! The reader was spot on in this first person rendition of the life of Perry L. Crandell, winner of the Washington State Lottery. Again, one of those books that shows you that real family is often not who you are related to, but those who unashamedly love you for who you are. This was not a sappy book; there is one rather coarse character who just captured my heart! Loved it!"

" Another book I couldn't put down. Great characters & character development. I felt like I had known the characters for a long time. "
— Kim, 2/19/2014" This book was enjoyable, but one-dimensional without much depth to the story or the characters. It seemed to keep repeating itself and didn't provoke my thoughts too much; but it wasn't horrible! just read like a made-for-TV-movie. "
— Elaine, 2/12/2014" Loved this book! The characters were so good, so unique and funny. The theme is such a simple message about basic kindness but so important. I can't wait to read another book by this author. "
— Wrighty, 2/12/2014" Read for a bookclub meeting that I ended up not being able to attend...again. A very enjoyable read. Maybe not the most believable, but talk about the "L" in the kid's middle name standing for "Lucky." He sure was. And in his simplistic way, certainly able to see the beauty where others couldn't. Did enjoy how the book's nicest characters were the roughest around the edges-type people. "
— Deborah, 2/8/2014" I love Percy's life priorities. Lots of emotion in this story. "
— Kimberly, 1/27/2014" One of my favorite books....so sweet and funny. I have lent it out to many people to read. "
— Denidevine, 1/23/2014" I didn't realy understand the plot. It was to hard for me to figure out what he was tring to do. "
— Dylan, 1/16/2014" This is a great book! I enjoyed the first person narration from the main character that is NOT retarded. I was cheering for him through the whole book. "

— Joanne, 7/28/2013" I would easily give this book 5 stars, but couldn't because of the language. I loved the story, hated the language. "
— Megan, 6/13/2013" This book is so cool! (if you read it this phrase will mean more) Patricia Wood has really created a wonderfully vulnerable real character in Perry. Now I know what everyone was raving about! "

— Sandy, 2/2/2013" A man with an IQ of 76 wins the Washington State Lottery. A bit of a tear jerker. "
— Andrea, 10/23/2012" Although I am not sure about the ending, overall I really enjoyed this book. The characterization was excellent. I found Perry charming and his observations on life real and poignant. I was touched by the story and impressed with Atwood's ability to convey it so realistically. "
— Jamie, 7/2/2012" This book made me laugh and made me cry but I just could not stop reading it!! I loved it!! "
— Karen, 5/13/2012" This book wasn't interesting at all. It didnt really get my attention at all. "
— Alexis, 11/11/2011" This was pretty sappy and predictable, but I did enjoy it. I am somewhat puzzled and somewhat think it is fantastic that the author thanked her boat before any sentient beings and her pets before her husband, especially considering the point of the book is the importance of love. "
— Eliza, 9/18/2011" I was fooled by an incredibly well-written intro. It was all downhill after that with a little speed bump up at the end - but not enough to save it. "
— Laurie, 8/4/2011" great book. definately worth the rear. written in the 1st person from the point of view of a semi-retarded man. funny, sad, and touching. "
— Superfly, 6/25/2011" I enjoy when an author develops their characters to a point where you feel like you really know them. Perry has, what I call, gentle class. "
— Rachel, 5/12/2011" I loved this book so much, I loved Per and Keith and Grams. this is one of my favorite books of all times; really made me feel good. "
— Noelle, 4/27/2011" Reminded me a bit of the Case of the Curious Dog at midnight (title?). Its a fun read! "
— Elissa, 4/26/2011" I loved the characters. So colorful. I picked it for my bookclub and then e-mail the author because she offered to attend bookclubs. She did just that, she came via speaker phone from Oregon. She talked with us for about an hour and it was sooo interesting! "
— Patti, 4/26/2011" Amazing! The main character really draws you in & the ending is both unexpected & satisfying. I want more from this author! "
— Lauren, 4/13/2011" I very much enjoyed this book. (I'm a bit stingy with 5-star ratings, but I did enjoy it almost that much.) Good characters, several of whom are easy to like, funny and tragic at the same time. A good read. "
— Kathy, 4/11/2011" This is a heartwarming story about a "slow" adult who wins the Washington State lottery. How his friends and family react is a study in human nature, the good , the bad ,and the ugly. "
— Marie, 3/17/2011" one of the best books i've ever read. it was beautiful, sad, and sweet all in one. "
— Katie, 3/14/2011" Good book.. deserved to be read "
