This New York Times best-seller has earned universal acclaim, including starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal, and Booklist . With hits like Election and Joe College to his credit, author Tom Perrotta has established himself as a master of satire. Unhappily married Sarah passes her days at the local playground with her three-year-old daughter. When happily unemployed Todd (also married) and Sarah meet, their attraction is immediate. They begin a passionate affair just as their suburban utopia is rattled by the arrival of registered sex offender Ronald James McGorvey. With McGorvey in town, disgusted parents wonder if any of their little children will be safe. Perrotta's wry observations of suburbia make for a tremendously insightful tale. By adding a layer of suspense to his uniquely dark humor, he shapes Little Children into his most compelling novel yet.

"I love this book. It makes you smile on the precise and witty character routines of people we all know and call "grown ups" . While secretly we know that they (we) have never left their (our) childhood, and are only just pretending to get through this thing called maturity. I love Tom Perrotta's dead on portrayals of suburban living, Starbuck drinking, serious minded Americans, and the realization that there is really not a pure saint among us. We are just simply everyday people trying to hide our childhood fears, and at the end of the day that realization is just fine. Delicious...."

" Never thought I could develop sympathy for such a horrible and despicable character "
— Brandi, 2/16/2014" This book surprised me. I felt sympathy for people I would normally hate because their lives were so screwed up. Makes you think. "
— Amber, 2/11/2014" The author creates one-dimensional characters who are cliches of suburban life. I wondered why he bothered to write about characters for whom he had such apparent contempt, or why he imagined the reader would care about them. The plot was shallow and, for the most part, predictable. It would not have taken very much imagination to create characters with more humanity and depth than the ones in Little Children, but the author doesn't seem interested in doing so. The book seems written for the sole purpose of reaching what the author conceives as a dramatic ending. "
— Mavis, 2/9/2014" I adored this book! An author has talent when (s)he can stir emotions - and Perrotta managed to stir many w/ LC: I laughed. I shuttered. I wallowed. Human emotions are raw and real and the author shows a continued knack for honing in and the all-too-gray nature in us all. 4 1/2 stars "
— Tiffany, 2/5/2014" A quick and entertaining read. It did give a depressing view of marriage though, and I felt it ended abruptly and too neatly. Even so, I still would recommend it. "
— Caitlin, 1/29/2014" Much better than the movie, a page-turner (I unfortunately realized this during midterms in grad school) about the scandals of suburbia. Loved it. "
— Megnificentfig, 1/24/2014" Amazing! Could not put it down! "
— Michael, 1/20/2014" i thought this book was brilliant! all the jumping around and the horribly behaved adults! there were genuinely suspenseful moments too! "
— Hallie, 1/12/2014" Having grown up in the hypocracy of the suburbs and struggled with the whole issue of giving up one's identity to have children, this book really struck a nerve with me. Witty, intelligent dark humor at its best. And the movie was terrific, too. "
— Terriscales, 1/9/2014" i thought it had a basically good story line but was lightweight "
— Julia, 12/9/2013" So juicy. I can't wait to read more of his books. "
— Carly, 11/24/2013" Not great - it was a book club read. "
— Rene, 11/23/2013" The book was unremarkable and a little dull. The movie, however...was pretty great. One of those rare times when the transfer from book to screen worked much better. "
— Amy, 11/15/2013" Sex. This book is hot. And slightly disturbing and hard to put down. "
— Morgan, 11/11/2013" I ended up quite liking this book. I think the author's style of writing is a bit different for me, perhaps, because it's satirical. Strangely enough I found myself agreeing with the thoughts of his characters. Just picked up this movie from the Library so hopefully it's a win-win! =) "
— Lesley, 11/11/2013" I have no idea why anyone thought I would enjoy this movie. The book was pretty dark but you kept reading it because you knew that everything would go wrong and end badly. I guess I was not in the mood for a "dark book". "
— Sasha, 5/5/2013" Ok until the abrupt ending...then the rest of the book seemed pointless. "
— Beryl, 10/5/2012" I really liked this book-more at the end then anyplace in the beginning or middle. It was a quick read with predictable characters but then got very interesting at the end. I wish it had ended in a more dramatic way. "
— Dawn, 8/26/2012" I actually saw this movie before I read the book and that is how I would recommend doing it if you want to both see the movie and read the book. The book greatly outshines the film even though it is a good movie in its own right. "
— J, 8/20/2012" Corny. Like a REALLY bad 80's movie. "
— Catrina, 2/7/2012" This book kept your attention well, but I must admit that this is one of the few cases where I liked the movie more then the book (Gasp, sacrilege!) "
— Elizabeth, 1/10/2012" CHick lit with a man "
— Kerry, 12/30/2011" One of my favorite books ever. "
— Tom, 5/18/2011" This book was so good I couldn't put it down. It is a very cleverly written book and very entertaining! "
— Sausageclaire, 5/10/2011" I am currently really loving this. "
— Christy, 5/4/2011" This book kept me on the edge of my seat. surprisingly good with a shocking turn of events. loved every minute of it! "
— Tiffanie, 4/23/2011" I have no idea why anyone thought I would enjoy this movie. The book was pretty dark but you kept reading it because you knew that everything would go wrong and end badly. I guess I was not in the mood for a "dark book". "
— Sasha, 4/17/2011" Had a sense of deja vu as I read this one. I think I had seen the movie a while ago. "
— Heatherannwurtz, 4/9/2011" Enjoyed the satirical look at suburban motherhood. "
— Jill, 4/8/2011" It started off a little dry but further along in the book I could more and more identify with some of the characters. I watched the movie within a few minutes of finishing the book. I felt the movie was better (that rarely happens). "
— Tarott, 3/15/2011" The first day I read 100 pages. Could not put it down, but had too. I am not a fast reader due to life in general, so for me to read a book in a week, it had to be good. I enjoyed everything about this book. "
— Maria, 2/21/2011" This was a book that I think many people can relate to on many levels. Could not put it down and didn't want to! Very well written! Now to watch the movie... "
— Lori, 2/16/2011" I enjoyed the book, although some of the writing was a little choppy between characters. It is a character driven book and makes you think about how much you compromise of yourself before you lose yourself. "
