B.K.S. Iyengar, hailed as "the Michelangelo of yoga" (BBC) and considered by many to be the most important living yoga master, has spent much of his life introducing the modern world to the ancient practice of yoga. Yoga's popularity is soaring, but its widespread acceptance as an exercise for physical fitness and the recognition of its health benefits have not been matched by an understanding of the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development that the yogic tradition can also offer. In Light on Life, B.K.S. Iyengar explains this new and more complete understanding of the yogic journey. Here Iyengar explores the yogic goal to integrate the different parts of the self (body, emotions, mind and soul); the role that the yoga postures and breathing techniques play in our search for wholeness; the external and internal obstacles that keep us from progressing along the path; and how yoga can transform our lives and help us to live in harmony with the world around us. For the first time, Iyengar uses stories from his own life, humor, and examples from modern culture to illustrate the profound gifts that yoga offers. Written with the depth of this sage's great wisdom, Light on Life is the culmination of a master's spiritual genius, a treasured companion to his seminal Light on Yoga.

"B.K.S is the yoga bomb! Really, I am savoring this book and, like Jewel Tree of Tibet, will probably revisit often. It is so enjoyable to savor selections that directly benefit yoga practice. Sometimes I just let a page pick me, go to any line, and apply whatever gem is there to that days practice."

— Jeffrey, 2/19/2014" I read and re-read this book. . .I don't think it will ever belong to the shelf. "
— Aretha, 2/15/2014" I love yoga, so I figured I would love this book. And if you already know chakras, yamas and niyamas, Patanjali, the sutras, and all that good stuff then this will be a worthwhile read. Sometimes I find Iyengar to be a bit misogynistic, but I've been told time and again that he's old school, from another culture, etc. etc. so I'm trying not to include too much of that in my opinion of this book. Yogis: read this, it will deepen your practice. Non-yogis: I don't think this is a good place to start. The second half of the book - reaching enlightenment - was a little beyond me at this point. Its a book I'll come back to for reference, but probably not read again cover to cover. "
— Eva, 2/8/2014" Wisdom from a lifetime of practice. Iyengar's insights are masterful, and though the book is rich in yoga philosophy, it is filled with funny and easy-to-relate-to anecdotes. I recommend it to any yoga practitioner. "
— Amy, 1/8/2014" excellent, b/c iyengar is such a brilliant guy. every line in this book is like, "oh my god, yeah!" so, you have to read it slowly. it's dense. "
— stella, 1/7/2014" Something I will come back to throughout my life. "
— Stephanie, 1/6/2014" Read it several years ago and again recently while following an Iyengar yoga course. It was very inspirational. "

— Cara, 12/6/2013" Sweetly written and warm. This one is good for those seeking more from their physical yoga practice. It covers the limbs of yoga andis almost an explaination of Patanjali's yoga sutra teachings. "
— Angela, 11/22/2013" The kind of book you want to read in spurts because the language is rich and deserves to be soaked in little by little. "
