Elegant, secretive Sabina may be Empress of Rome, but she still stands poised on a knife's edge. She must keep the peace between two deadly enemies: her husband Hadrian, Rome's brilliant and sinister Emperor; and battered warrior Vix, who is her first love. "You can't possibly do justice to such a sweeping set of novels, so l'll just say, you really don't have to know a thing about ancient Rome to fall in love with this set. My one bugbear? Has to be the narrators. Not bad enough to stop you listening, but not good enough for even faint praise. No. Romans didn't speak with whiney American accents - the children in particular made my teeth ache. The names? One colossal wince making mistake. Who the hell is 'Domidium'? IT'S DOMISHUN!!!!!"
