The stitchers of the Embroiderers Guild raised over twenty thousand dollars for charity—but the representative who accepted the check at the annual convention disappeared with it. It turns out that he's the husband of the local chapter president, Allie Germaine, who insists on his innocence. But if Bob Germaine didn't pocket the check, who did? And where is Bob now? Since needlework shop owner Betsy Devonshire has broken her leg horseback riding, solving the latest crime will have to be a group project.

"This book in the series is different than others in that the reader knows very early on who committed the crime, and much of the why and how, so we're rooting for Betsy and her friends to collect the clues and figure it out, too. It is written well enough and still has enough suspense that it is enjoyable to read. We are left wondering how Betsy and Godwin will find their clues and put them together, which keeps enough interest to keep reading. This is a different format than the others in the series but a fun change."

— Romantic Times, praise for A Stitch in Time“Filled with great small-town characters...A great time...Fans of Jessica Fletcher will devour this.”
— Rendezvous, praise for the series" Did not like this as well as the other books in the series. It just seemed lame and mostly about the assistant, Goddie, who is not my favorite character. "
— Toni, 2/9/2014" Always interesting; makes me want to learn to knit. "
— Lindig, 2/2/2014" This one is interesting in that the narrative goes back and forth between investigators Betsy, who's laid up with a broken leg, and Godwin, taking over for her in the interview department, and the probable bad guy, who can't remember doing anything wrong. Another plus is a crow with a broken wing that Betsy is temporarily taking care of. "
— Vicki, 1/24/2014" another "themed" mystery series. OK quick read. "
— Constance, 1/13/2014" This was a disappointing book. The main character breaks a leg and is confined through most of it in her apartment. She has her assistant do most of the sleuthing, so there's a lot of repetition. Plus, there are many point of view shifts, which I found annoying. "
— Grey853, 1/9/2014" A good read. You don't have to be into needlework to enjoy Ferris' books. (I just skip over the parts that are boring to me.) "
— Nancy, 1/3/2014" I love these books and I knitted the pattern at the end! "
— Lesley, 1/1/2014" I love this series. It is a fluff mystery, a cozy which is fine to read quickly. "
— Elizabeth, 12/5/2013" This was the first book that I read for this series and it got me hooked on this series! I like all the main characters in this series and enjoy reding about how they work to solve the murders. "
— Deb, 11/24/2013" The parellel structure in this one worked well-and Godwin came up trumps-but the understory of the animal was a little farfetched. "
— Cece, 8/22/2013" Betsy does it again...with reasonable thinking and good questions, she is able to sort through the mystery and you can too. I am reading all of Monica Ferris' books in order because I like her style and they are very quick reads...2 days each. "
— Natalie, 1/7/2013" Another good mystery in the series ... nothing fantastic, but quick and enjoyable. "
— Joy, 12/19/2012" Cute --- almost too cute. I think I like to knit more than I like to listen to stories about knitters. "
— Rebecca, 10/30/2012" Godwin must solve a mystery while Betsy is homebound with a broken leg "
— Debbie, 6/16/2012" When will Betsy do her own sleuthing again? She's turning in to Nero Wolfe with Godwin as her Archie... "
— Annette, 6/15/2012" Not one of the better mysteries in this series. :( "
— Glenda, 11/5/2011" Goddy is the hero in this book because Betsy is hindered by a broken leg and is stuck in her apartment. She does do her usual deducing and sends Goddy to do the footwork to catch the killer. An interesting change to seeing Betsy doing all the sleuthing! "
— Patt, 10/16/2011" Entertaining; liked the twist of Goddy being Betsy's "legs." "
— Cindy, 8/11/2011" I love Monica Ferris' needlework mysteries and I enjoyed this one as much as the rest. The patterns at the back are always a great motivator to buy the book :) "
— Patti, 7/11/2011" I always enjoy this cozy mystery series. Especially since I use to teach needle crafts at one time. "
— Marla, 4/2/2011" This was an OK book. It's an easy read. Some of the details of the story are a bit too weird to be believable. "

— Mary, 4/1/2009" This was a disappointing book. The main character breaks a leg and is confined through most of it in her apartment. She has her assistant do most of the sleuthing, so there's a lot of repetition. Plus, there are many point of view shifts, which I found annoying. "
