"Kitten thinks she sees a bowl of milk in the sky, but it's really just the moon. Nonetheless, she goes on a mission to find that bowl of milk. Eventually she goes home in defeat only to find a bowl waiting for her on the porch. The black and white images are playful as well as emotional."

" Read this in grad school, and have used it frequently in storytimes ever since. A nice way to engage listeners to have them help you find all the circles and ovals in the drawings, since they're definitely a repeated motif. "

" Adorable story. Black and white illustrations. A small kitten is surprised to learn that it's first full moon is not the bowl of yummy milk she thinks it is. "

" This book was adorable! And my favorite thing about it is that the illustrations are all black and white but the story is still there. And the pictures are precious. I think kids will really enjoy this book. "

" This book was one of the best illustrated books I have ever seen. It has a great story of a kitten, and how he just can't help but unintentionally chase the moon. The moon will have him doing some pretty funny things, but he will get his bowl of milk in the end. "

" Won the Caldecott illustration award, it's a black and white book but doesn't need the color! Cute story about a curious kitten who discovers to learn. "

" The premise of the story is cute, the kitten thinks the moon is a bowl of milk. Overall, it's cute. I don't think it's the cutest illustrations so I'm suprised at the Caldecott Medal for this book. But, it's a sweet story. "

" I thought this book was great. They kept the story simple and the illustrations complemented the story nicely. I found the illustrations where the kitten was wide-eyed to be very humorous. I was also glad that the kitten's persistence paid off at the end of the story. "

" I would give this book one and a half stars. The illustrations by Kevin Henkes are beautifully done, and beginning readers will laugh at the story of the title kitten trying to reach the giant saucer of milk that is the moon. "
