Julie explores the miracle of faith against a background of small-town America coming of age, with a story—and a heroine—unforgettably powerful and alive. Julie Wallace was only eighteen when her family moved to a flood-prone Pennsylvania town in 1934. Here her father, risking their life savings, took over a struggling newspaper, and Julie began fighting to fulfill her dreams. She found herself taking sides as battle lines were drawn between desperate steelworkers and the owners of the mills—and being torn as two young men divided her loyalty and her heart. Then a devastating catastrophe became the ultimate test of courage and commitment—and Julie’s special strength would come from love.

"Very good but not as good as she normally is. The female was a bit annoying at times and needy not very likable sometimes. He was wonderful and it was a nice love story. He was strong and lovable. It lacked a plot at times. His character as a pirate and lover carried the book and made it enjoyable."

“A novel with a fresh innocence,…a great vividness, and power.”
— Milwaukee Journey Sentinel“Readers are still swept up in the events. Several issues are at stake, but the backdrop of the story—the safety of the earthen dam and thus the town—is what drives the plot and is skillfully written with proficient foreshadowing and heightened urgency. First published in 1984, Julie is still a worthwhile read for all ages.”
— RT Book Reviews (4 stars)“Irresistible fare for Marshall followers.”
— Kirkus Reviews" If I could have given this a 3.5 - I would have. It was better than book 1 & 2 but to me - not worthy of a 4. On to book 4. "
— Debbie, 2/13/2014" It's been years since I read this one, but I can't tell you how many boxes I've looked through trying to find my copy so I could read it again. I credit Julie Garwood for my own love of romance novels and for giving me the inspration to become an author as well. "
— Mary, 2/7/2014" I think this book is going to be more romantic than the previous one... I just love Nathan and Sara. "
— Inten, 2/2/2014" The main character, Sara, is a ditz. I want to smack her. And the main male character, Nathan, is described as having long red hair that hangs down his back aka a mullet. *Shudder* I just couldn't get past it. "
— KJ, 1/29/2014" Couldn't finish. Got about 3/4 of the way through and realized I was actually wincing as I turned each page. Utter shite. "
— Erin, 1/20/2014" I love Julie Garwood's historical romance. This book is one of the funniest ones I have read. A definite must read! "

— Lauretta, 1/16/2014" dr smua series ini krg suka sm heroine ny...manja n cenggeng bgt... "
— Newyear, 1/12/2014" I really like Sara. She is myopic, won't wear her glasses, and constantly in trouble because she acts before she thinks. Love the setting (1800 England and at sea), love the ship, love the hero. A gooey delight for when you want a period piece. "
— Maya, 12/17/2013" the book is okay so far. "
— Roginea, 12/10/2013" This my favorite book of all time. I can't count the number of times that I have read this book. "
— Janet, 11/29/2013" This is a goodie, and it includes characters from Garwoods' Lyon's Lady and The Guardian so read those first. Good books as well. "
— Lady, 11/23/2013" This is one of my all time favorites. The story, the romance, the action, it had it all. I you are looking for a book that is easy to read and has a good storyline, read this one. "
— Ansu, 11/14/2013" Not sure if it was partially because its not one of my preferred time periods, but it was very disappointing. To me it didn't read right, the writing was shockingly disappointing for her "
— Heather, 11/3/2013" Very sweet. I didn't even realize this was a series until today. I read this when I was a teen and enjoyed it very much. "

— Asrina, 5/28/2012" A charming love story. A solid Julie Garwood. "
— Misha, 5/26/2012" This is a novel I failed to enjoy reading. I disliked the forced humour throughout the book regarding the clumsiness of Sarah's character. I feel this book bears a resemblance to Lindsey Johanna's book, A Pirate's Love. "
— Aaishath, 11/12/2011" Really rather a 3,5 star reading. Entertaining, but don`t expect too much. This author has some other books which are much more fun. "
— Lyrah, 11/7/2011" Another good one. I love all her books. "
— Kim, 10/2/2011" I loved this historical fiction a lot. It is indeed a very good book with very touching moments to treasure. "
— Dana, 6/12/2011" This is one that most have probably heard of, very good read for the old fashioned such as myself. "
— Crystal, 5/10/2011" My mom introduced me to this book when I was in junior high, and I remember reading it on a car ride from Pennsylvania to Maine. It’s a nice story about a family and coming of age, as well as politics and struggles in the time it was set. "
— Bridget, 2/13/2011" The cover alone takes me back. I remember not liking the male characters as much as the ones in Christy, but loving the newspaper/dam story line. Some day I'll have time to reread all these:) Maybe good gifts ideas for Meg. "
— Deirdre, 1/3/2011" Although not as powerfully influential in my life as Christy, it was for me another favorite in my high school years. It's cover has fallen off, and it's pages are worn. "
— Michal, 9/25/2010" Great coming of age story. A little predictable, but a nice CLEAN interesting book. Slow, something to read when you have nothing better to read. :) "
— Jen, 8/15/2010" Social Justice stuff, tad sweet for such a sad story [Johnstown Flood:] "
— Jackson, 8/6/2010" Very good, but not even close to Christy, my all time favorite. "
— Melissa, 8/4/2010" Great book! It starts a little slow but has a crazy ending. What is even more remarkable is that it is based on a true story. "
— Laura, 4/30/2010" Just because of reading "Christy" when I was young. "
— Shellie, 4/7/2010" again read it when I was younger, but I was so sucked in... good book "

— Etta, 3/9/2010" As my father worked in a steel mill in Western PA for over 30 years, I was very interested in the part of this book where Julie interviews steelworkers and tours the site. "
