He had one need.... She had one hope.... They have one chance. Jace Johnson never thought of himself as a family man. He felt much more at home as a vampire raising hell out on the range. But when he met Miri, that all changed. Their relationship was forbidden and tumultuous, and it came to a gut-wrenching end the day Miri disappeared. When after a year of searching, Jace finds Miri in a Sanctuary enclave, he has only one vow: to take back what's his. After a year of cruel experimentation by the Sanctuary on her werewolf form, Miri is no longer the passionate mate Jace remembers. Closed off and resolute, all she lives for is the rescue of the daughter Jace never knew they had, taken from her at birth by the Sanctuary because of her unique vampire/werewolf bloodlines. Now, Jace and Miri will have to overcome the tragedy of their pasts. It's the only way to save their beloved child from the deadly grip of a merciless enemy, and to reclaim the future they both desire.

"Third in the Shadow Wranglers series. Jace is one of the Johnson brothers, vampires who are slowly making their their presence known, and who have set themselves apart from the evil vampire scientists at Sanctuary. Jace has mated with Miri but is unaware of all of the rules of pack behavior and does not realize her position within her werewolf pack of Tragallions. Her unwise decision to flee after he leaves her results in her being tortured and their daughter being removed from her care. Jace must prove to Miri that he is worthy of her love even as he seeks to protect her, retrieve their child and deal with the problem of succession in her pack. A great addition to the series although I am still confused about the timing and mission that caused Jace to leave for a year. There are mentions of the civil war but then Miri and Jace are in a house that has an alarm with a keypad, freezer and a ice dispenser? Impressive look at the dynamics of packs as well as the interactions between weres and vampires."

— Romantic Times" Awesome book as all the others. "
— NisyKitty, 1/17/2014" 3.5-4 stars. This was a good book by Sarah McCarty, but I didn't love it as much as her Promise series. Jace is actually the 3rd in this series, and I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had started with the first and read them in order. "
— Karma, 12/30/2013" 3.5 I enjoyed the heck out of this book until I got to the end. Everything wrapped up a little to easily and cleanly for me. After over 350 pages of issues and no resolution it only took 14 pages for all the drama to wrap up and leave the couple happy. "
— Scooper, 12/1/2013" Vampire and were cowboys. Enough said. I love, love, love this series-- and can't wait until the weres finally start finding mates and books of their own. "
— Anne, 5/18/2013" this was by far my favorite book in this series, can't wait to read next book "
— Christine, 4/1/2013" Jace was the first in this series of shifters, which was a surprise to me. Good story, but not my usual fare. "
— Becky, 9/29/2012" This one didn't hold my attention quiet as well as the other two did. Maybe it was just me, though. It was not a bad addition to the series, though. "
— Melanie, 4/3/2012" Review going up November 1st. "
