A #1 national bestseller—“A yarn so packed with suspense, romance, literary reference, fascinating miscellaneous knowledge, and heart that only Stephen King could have written it. Marvelous—that is, full of marvels” (Booklist).
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier, until he’s barely sleeping at all. During his late night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people’s heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.
There’s a definite mean streak running through this small New England city; underneath its ordinary surface awesome and terrifying forces are at work. The dying has been going on in Derry for a long, long time. Now Ralph is part of it…and lack of sleep is the least of his worries.
Returning to the same Maine town where It took place, a town that has haunted Stephen King for decades, Insomnia blends King’s trademark bone-chilling realism with supernatural terror to create yet another masterpiece of suspense.

"Well yes, it's long!! But, quite a good one for me but I've the idea that it's not for everyone. Insomnia, abortion, mental illness, and a matter of life and dead and the world in between. It has a good start, a bit slow in the middle, but regains it's enjoyable pace towards the surprisingly unexpected end!"

“Only Stephen King could have written it. Marvelous—that is, full of marvels.”
— Booklist" I love this story, the narrator is a great actor & good narrator, but whoever thought adding the music in between chapters at the loud volume was wrong! It completely detracted from the story when I had to turn down my story volume every time the music started to play. Other than that, I would recommend! "
— Diana, 1/23/2017" While the philosophy in this story is a little garbled and maybe not the most ethical, it is well structured and provoking. Insomnia can be scary... "
— Richard, 2/19/2014" my favorite of his books "
— Catherine, 2/19/2014" Loved this, i love how Stephen King incorperates charachters from other novels together "
— Lyn, 2/14/2014" This was a very interesting and well written book. Though not as gory as some of his other books, this is defiantly worth ready all 700 hundred (and then some) pages. "
— ✂, 2/3/2014" Possibly some of the greatest fiction ever written "
— Shawn, 2/1/2014" Quite possibly my absolute favorite Stephen King novel! Terrific read! "

— Angela, 1/10/2014" Not a good book to read when you're an insomniac... "
— Tracy, 1/9/2014" I didn't finish, but I'm finished. Usually Mr. King could make those weird little bald-headed doctors believable (maybe even scary) but not this time! "
— Bethany, 12/13/2013" must read for dark tower connections. "
— Phred, 12/13/2013" One of my favorite Stephen King novels and I am reading it again. "
— Vesta, 10/17/2013" Very bizarre tale. "
— David, 10/12/2013" Excellent book. A little long in certain parts, but the end justifies the means. The characters are excellent and the story is engaging. "
— Lynn, 10/6/2013" This book took awhile to get going like most of his books do, but once it did it was one of my fav. books from him. "
— Robert, 9/10/2013" Interesting book, but some parts of it moved a little slow. Not what I would consider to be one of his better books. With Stephen King it is sometimes hit or miss. "
— Trisha, 5/10/2013" One of my favorite Stephen King novels (not including the Dark Tower Series). I love it how almost all of King's books all filter back into Roland's world. "
— Linsie, 5/9/2013" Its a hard read which made for a long read..I read it in between other books because I would start to lose interest and basically went back to it so I could finally finish it. "
— Wendy, 4/24/2013" My all time favorite King novel. "
— Andrew, 3/21/2013" A rather long novel, but really enjoyable. The Journey Ralph Roberts takes is really interesting. Recommend this book highly. Stephen King classic. "

— Katie, 5/15/2012" I wouldn't say it is a typical King's book, it is weirder. Completely insane but in a good way. You will not relax your brain but you will efficiently kill time. "
— Elvis, 4/30/2012" It's been a long time since I've read it, but I remember this being one of the first Stephen King novels I actually enjoyed since reading his classics (Christine, Four Seasons, Cujo, etc.) as a high schooler. "
— Kyle, 4/1/2012" Though slower to start, this book turned out to be one of my favorite Stephen King stories. "
— Paul, 1/12/2012" What an incredible story! It's a million storylines woven into a riveting journey. Love how it ties into the Dark Tower series! "
— Anne, 12/31/2011" Good; Good (guy w/ insomnia) vs. evil (invisible bald doctors) "

— Rp, 5/21/2011" I read this for the first time when I was 10. It's on my shelf to read at least once a year, I love it that much. "
— Amber, 5/20/2011" Not as instantly readable as some of King's other books, but well worth the time to stick to it. Unfortunately, the made for tv movie ruined some of this book for me, so perhaps that's why it took me so long to finish. "
— Christina, 5/20/2011" I have read this book several times. I love the characters. "
— Anna, 5/19/2011" The first half of the book is revetting; however, the ending is a real disappointment. There is a great build up for nothing. I actually expected more. "
— David, 5/19/2011" This was the first Stephen King I read. Loved it. "
— Laura, 5/17/2011" Great book, except the very end. This is something that Stephen King does quite a bit, unfortunately. He tells a great story and uses a contrivance to finish it. It doesn't mean I stop reading; it's just a bit jarring. "
— Nancy, 5/17/2011" I think this is the only Stephen King book that I have ever truly enjoyed. I do like a bit of Science Fiction!! "
— Clare, 5/17/2011" King absolutely knows how to tell a story. I love the allegorical nature of the book, pitting good against evil. I'm not a person that loves post-apocalyptic stories, but King makes me want to love this genre. One of the best reads I've had in years. "
— Skip, 5/16/2011" one of my favorite books of all time! "
— Sheeba, 5/16/2011" This was the first Steven King book I ever read. I couldn't put it down. I read the entire book in a day. "
