Publisher Description

“An unforgettable, unflinching glimpse into a mind driven to murder” (San Francisco Chronicle)—the #1 national bestseller from Stephen King about a housekeeper with a long-hidden secret from her past…one that tests her own will to survive.

Dolores Claiborne is suspected of killing Vera Donovan, her wealthy employer, and when the police question her, she tells the story of her life, harkening back to her disintegrating marriage and the suspicious death of her violent husband thirty years earlier. Dolores also tells of Vera’s physical and mental decline and how she became emotionally demanding in recent years.

Given a voice as compelling as any in contemporary fiction, the strange intimacy between Dolores and Vera—and the link that binds them—unfolds in Dolores’s account. It shows, finally, how fierce love can be, and how dreadful its consequences. And how the soul, harrowed by the hardest life, can achieve a kind of grace.

Hailed by Entertainment Weekly as a “tour de force, Dolores Claiborne is “a literary triumph. The finest of King novels…a plot of enormous energy…Read this book” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

"Maybe I'm a little biased, because I only made this account in order to download this particular audiobook, but this is one of Stephen King's finest works. I love so many of his books, but this one definitely has a strong, clear identity. Now that I obnoxiously rambled along for a bit, go download "Dolores Claiborne", and enjoy! P.S. This one is a bit graphic in the child abuse department, as do many of King's books. I just thought you should know. "

" Another great story from King. This book was great; a lot of depth to the characters and haunting. I am not sure why he's always tagged as horror . . . "

" I went into this story blindly. I had only heard a little bit about it, mostly from the movie but I wasn't really sure what to make of it either. I was very underwhelmed when I finished this book and normally I highly enjoy Stephen King novels. To me it seemed like that this could've been much simplier and perhaps in a short story. I did like the interesting narrative that was presented in this book. It was told entirely from Dolores' mouth, all 300 pages in one night. That was probably the only interesting aspect of the story to me. There were some twists and turns in there that I wasn't expecting like Vera killing her husband and then seeing her children die even though she talked about them as they were alive. Dolores' story however seemed to me to be fairly predictable. I was able to get through the story much quicker when Dolores was telling about Vera's last hours and her fall down the stairs. It was as if her husband was dead again but more people paid attention to it because of her involvment and the way the crime was set out. The ending seemed a little cheap, her still giving away the money. But it was interesting to see the 'end of the tale' through newspaper articles and seeing that her children where finally coming home. "

" Another Stephen King gem which anyone can read... even the scaredy-cats. The entire story is told from Dolores's point of view, and it's about what people will do for love. That's really what it comes down to. It's one of the most human, heart-wrenching novels Stephen King has written. I highly recommend it. "
