Pete Seeger (1919–2014) was a towering figure in American culture best known for his contributions to the revival of folk music in the United States and his activism. A masterful musician and a commanding spokesman, he remained true to his passions and principles, and his personal stories bear witness to some of our past century’s most scaring and triumphant historic events. He wrote many hit songs, including “Turn, Turn, Turn!”, ”Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” and “We Shall Overcome,” widely recognized as anthems of the 1960s American civil rights movement.
