She had the darkest of pasts. And he had everything to lose by loving her.

Laura Foster, free from the bondage of an unspeakable childhood, has struggled to make a new life for herself. Now the owner of an elegant boardinghouse in Glory, Texas, she is known as a wealthy, respectable widow. But Laura never forgets that she is always just one step ahead of her past. When Reverend Brand McCormick comes calling, Laura does all she can to discourage him as a suitor. She knows that if her past were discovered, Brand’s reputation would be ruined. But it’s not only Laura’s past that threatens to bring Brand down—it’s also his own.

When a stranger in town threatens to reveal too many secrets, Laura is faced with a heartbreaking choice: Should she leave Glory forever and save Brand’s future? Or is it worth risking his name—and her heart—by telling him the truth?

" I didn't get much out of this book except for "Let he who is without sin shall cast the first stone." I liked the unexpected character, I did not see that one coming. Ending was good, but I don't have any strong feelings toward it. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Cindy Huery | 2/19/2014

" At first this book was sort of meh, but by the end I really cared about the characters and although it's extremely predictable and I've read a story similar to this I enjoyed it. I will be reading g the next book. "

" A beautiful story about a woman who had a tragic upbringing. While this book doesn't have the hot, steamy scenes of many romance novels, the story itself is very compelling and the characters are wonderful. My heart was constantly breaking when I thought about what Laura had experienced and lived through. While all of the secrets being kept can get frustrating at times, I can't say I would have done anything different in that situation. This is a great story proving that our past doesn't define who we are today and who we can become in the future. "

" This was a free Kindle book from Amazon. I had just read another book by this author, so was interested. Laura Foster has given up her life as a prostitute and is posing as a wealthy widow running a boarding house. She meets and falls for the local preacher. Good western read. "

" Dull writing and too many cliches. "

" i am not sure I like it, after thinking about it for a day. The heroine was not believable. It was a great adventure. I think if I put it down for a day I would have had trouble going back to it, but on a sleepless night, it was fine. "

" I really enjoyed the storyline. I keep looking for books set in the U.S. before 1900-hard to find. It was a tad religious for me. I thought it was a historical romance when I picked it up, but the storyline and characters kept me with it. A very sweet read. "

" I loved this book. It dealt with a lady who had a horrid past. She makes poor choices as an adult and then decides she wants better for herself and changes her path. Very heartwarming in that it showed how people can change and how we shouldn't judge. I really liked it! "
