Grave witch Alex Craft can speak to the dead, but that doesn’t mean she likes what they have to say.

As a private investigator and consultant for the police, Alex Craft has seen a lot of dark magic. But even though she’s on good terms with Death himself—who happens to look fantastic in a pair of jeans—nothing has prepared her for her latest case. Alex is investigating a high profile murder when she’s attacked by the “shade” she’s raising, which should be impossible. To top off her day, someone makes a serious attempt on her life, but Death saves her. Guess he likes having her around …

To solve this case Alex will have to team up with tough homicide detective Falin Andrews. Falin seems to be hiding something—though it’s certainly not his dislike of Alex—but Alex knows she needs his help to navigate the tangled webs of mortal and paranormal politics, and to track down a killer wielding a magic so malevolent, it may cost Alex her life … and her soul.

" I really enjoyed this book. For me, it was better than Grave Witch. the characters were more fleshed out, and the story moved even faster. It didn't hurt that it really delved into the world of the Fae, a subject that tends to have intrinsic appeal for me. My one peeve was the weak love triangle in the book. (view spoiler)[ I just don't find "Death" an interesting character, and it's hard to accept him as a real rival for Alex's affections. Sure, Falin is bound to his queen, but he's a real character. Death doesn't do enough to have any sympathy from me. Unless he gets a lot more depth in future books, I will be really annoyed if he continues to be portrayed as a love interest (hide spoiler)]. "

" Oh this book. I liked it, not as much as the first in the series, but enough. Although I've come to the conclusion that I'm beginnging to not care for the world of faerie (and not, not because of this book, it's just that it finally got to me while reading this). Faerie just frustrates me, so I guess that means it's not for me, so I'll stay away from the food and dances. I still really enjoyed Alex, and am glad we got to see more of her friends and Death. I'm on the fence about how I feel towards Falin, but as of now, he's not too bad. If there is a third in the series, I'm sure I'll pick up a copy. "

" I liked this book...even though I did not read the first in the series, I was able to follow along without a problem. I will be reading the first book soon...this is good story telling. "
