From the bestselling author of Alone and The Killing Hour comes a thriller that goes from heartbreaking to heartstopping in the blink of an eye.… When someone you love vanishes without a trace, how far would you go to get them back? For ex-FBI profiler Pierce Quincy, it’s the beginning of his worst nightmare: a car abandoned on a desolate stretch of Oregon highway, engine running, purse on the driver’s seat. And his estranged wife, Rainie Conner, gone, leaving no clue to her fate. Did one of the ghosts from Rainie’s troubled past finally catch up with her? Or could her disappearance be the result of one of the cases they’d been working– a particularly vicious double homicide or the possible abuse of a deeply disturbed child Rainie took too close to heart? Together with his daughter, FBI agent Kimberly Quincy, Pierce is battling the local authorities, racing against time, and frantically searching for answers to all the questions he’s been afraid to ask. One man knows what happened that night. Adopting the alias of a killer caught eighty years before, he has already contacted the press. His terms are clear: he wants money, he wants power, he wants celebrity. And if he doesn’t get what he wants, Rainie will be gone for good. Sometimes, no matter how much you love someone, it’s still not enough. As the clock winds down on a terrifying deadline, Pierce plunges headlong into the most desperate hunt of his life, into the shattering search for a killer, a lethal truth, and for the love of his life, who may forever be…gone.

"Lisa Gardner has a knack for writing highly flawed but capable and likable characters. This book kept me guessing til the very end. I liked how she wrote the Dougie character and made you care about the little demon by the end. I felt the pain, anguish and the guilt of Quincy and the fact that all the main characters were dynamic enough to cover an entire book on there own. I wanted to know more about Shelly, Kinberly, Quincy, Mac and Rainy. Very good book"

" Very good, well written. A little wordy in some areas but overall a great read if you like murder suspense. "
— Bob, 2/20/2014" Cop disappears from her car that was left running in the woods, she is kidnapped, there is a ransom, husband(FBI profiler) saves her at the last minute. Quick read, would read another book of hers if I was in the mood for an easy-reading thriller. "
— Emily, 2/19/2014" I really enjoyed this story. I love these characters and found it hard to put the book down. "
— Sue, 2/19/2014" good read, lots of action, page turner "
— Michael, 1/30/2014" A solid mystery. Not entirely original characters (ex-FBI profiler with tragic past), but she writes very well and there were some intersting twists. The first one I've read by Gardner, and I'd definitly try her again. "
— Eileen, 1/21/2014" I really like this series - very compelling although I would like to kick Rainie's but! Love QuimcyQ "
— Sarah, 1/18/2014" Lisa Gardner writes excellent thrillers. Love this author "
— Valorie, 1/15/2014" This is my 1st Rainey/Quincy novel and I enjoyed it. Good characters, good ploy. Wanted to see what happens on the next page. Didnt figure out who was the kidnapper. I was pulling for Rainey and Quincy by the end of the book. "
— Mark, 1/13/2014" one of my favorite suspense/thriller authors. "
— Cindy, 12/31/2013" Love this author but sure wish I could figure out the order of her books! "
— Nancy, 12/18/2013" Well written. Great book for the who-dunnit enthusiast! I even cried at the end when a certain contact was reestablished...and I do NOT cry when reading most books. The only bummer is that I didn't know this was book#5 in a series. Guess I'll get to go back now and read the first 4. :-) "
— Beth, 12/16/2013" Another good story. She never bores the reader. "
— Sally, 11/4/2013" Good beach read - slash n' trash - good escapist book. "
— Roblyn, 11/3/2013" gripping thriller. should have read her other 2 books first though, for the history of the 2 main characters. "
— Happy, 10/23/2013" I actually love both of the Lisa Gardner Books that I have read so far (and I have heard that all of her books are great). If you want a good mystery that you don't want to put down - this is your book! :) "
— Dawney, 7/12/2013" Interminable. I thought this would never end. (Sorry, I know that's redundant.) Over 400 pages for the kidnapping of an adult and a child. Wish I had never started it!! "

— MissSusie, 11/11/2012" not as good as some of her newer stuff. Took a long time to get interesting. "
— Sherry, 9/15/2012" Gone was an ok book. It was about a former detective getting kidnapped. the kidnapper knows every step the police they take which makes them realize that he is close by. The book didnt really have that much of a spark, but it did have you guessing all the time of who the kidnapper was. "
— Rainey, 8/17/2012" Decent book with a twist. "
— Laurie, 7/28/2012" Love a book that gets my heart pounding! "
— Robin, 3/22/2012" Rainie is kidnapped and Pierce and his daughter are out to find her. A good read. "
— Michele, 11/29/2011" First Lisa Gardener but won't be the last. Looks like the 2 main characters Quincy and Rainie may be in other books also. Enjoyed the mystery and looking back the hints and clues were hidden there. Real people with real problems helped make the book believable. "
— Cheryl, 7/31/2011" I really love the progression of this group of characters. More than anything else, the characters attract me to this author. Her other books haven't made me want to stay in bed all day reading. "
— Lauren, 5/18/2011" The books in this series are starting to get predictable. "
